I just finished writing Year of the Dog ! It had a massive plot hole that I had to fix which turned out to be more work than I expected. Here’s a snippet: “Hey, Auntie Nell.” He wrapped his arms around her, bussing her on the cheek and breathing in pikake flowers and shortbread cookies. And suddenly he was nine years old again, and her solid presence had made his chaotic world stable once more. “What are you doing here?” He usually took her to dinner on Wednesday nights, but today was Tuesday. The edges of her smile faltered a little before brightening right back up again. “What, I can’t visit my nephew?” She angled around him to enter his home. “Is this your new house? Looks lovely.” Which was a blatant lie, because the fixer-upper was barely livable, much less acceptable to a neat-freak like his aunt. She also left four matching pink and purple floral suitcases on the stoop behind her. Only then did Ashwin notice the cab driver standing slightly to the side of the walkway. “Can ...
I got a chance to review a really awesome Advent Calendar from Adagio Teas! It’s supposed to be for Advent but I couldn’t wait so I opened it right away. :)
As with other Advent calendars I’ve used, the best part is being surprised by what you get each day. I would open the calendar and drink whatever tea I got for my teatime each day around 4 pm, so I ended up eating a lot of cookies and pastries with my tea. :)
I’m really impressed with the variety of tea in this calendar. There was everything: plain black tea as well as flavored black tea, oolong, green, flavored green, white, flavored white, rooibos and herbal. I admit I’m not a huge fan of oolong or rooibos, but I ended up liking some of the tea I got despite my bias.
Since I don’t want to spoil the surprise of what tea is in it, I’ll only highlight my favorite flavors. I liked the flavored black teas the best, but especially the winter and Christmas themed ones. The chestnut black tea was surprisingly good. I usually don’t really care for roasted chestnuts, but the tea was wonderfully nutty and slightly sweet, and it tasted great with milk and honey.
The box had some of my favorites, such as the Genmaicha “popcorn” rice green tea and the Masala Chai.
I also found I really enjoyed the Silver Needle white tea prepared hot. Previously I had only made it as a cold brew iced tea, but prepared hot, it was nicely mild and even a little sweet. It was perfect with a chocolate cookie.
A tea I tried for the first time and really liked was the Candy Apple tea. It was surprisingly “juicy” tasting and was great with only a little sweetener.
I liked having the opportunity to try teas I hadn’t tried before from Adagio. Since I usually don’t drink oolong tea hot, I especially liked how the different oolong teas in the calendar let me taste the difference between the different types.
All in all, I loved this Advent tea calendar! (And no, it’s not because I had an excuse to eat a lot of cookies and cakes! Really!)
