Pixies in a Garden in Kyoto
There were pixies in the garden. Since she was in Kyoto, she was certain they were not called pixies, but she didn't know what they would be called in Japanese, and they certainly looked like what she imagined pixies would look like.

The King’s Daughter
The trees in the King's garden were full of colored pixie lights. The king had hired a charmer to fill the trees with pixies of different species, and so they flitted in the branches, streaks of various colors like iridescent starlight. The water garden looked even more enchanting than it normally did, but it was mostly empty at this time of night, because most of the guest were at the Pavilion for the speeches for the king's birthday.

The Assassin’s Homecoming
The assassin had not been back to his hometown in many years, and everything seemed both strange and familiar to him. The leaves were bright green with the warmer weather, which was in contrast to the cold fortress he had left in the north. Here, life was vibrant and everything was shouting, "I am awake!" Even the practical vegetable gardens of the villagers were steeped in cheerful color.

The Pixie Dust Sky
Java’s grandmother always told her that pixies were allergic to iron, and when they sneezed, they released pixie dust into the air. When there was enough pixie dust, it made the sky appear closer, which was probably why the sky was always full of stars here in the blacksmith’s quarter of Flammelia.

Toilet seat cover

Captain’s Log, Supplemental Update August 2008: I wrote up the pattern for this with "improvements"! Here's the link to my No Cold Bums toilet seat cover ! Okay, remember a few days ago I was complaining about the cold toilet seat in my bathroom? Well, I decided to knit a seat cover. Not a lid cover, but a seat cover. I went online and couldn’t find anything for the seat, just one pattern for the lid by Feminitz.com . However, I took her pattern for the inside edge of the lid cover and modified it to make a seat cover. Here it is! It’s really ugly stitch-wise because originally I made it too small and had to extend it a couple inches on each side. I figured I’d be the one staring at it, so who cared if the extension wasn’t perfectly invisible? I used acrylic yarn since, well, that’s what I had, and also because it’s easy to wash. I’ll probably have to wash this cover every week or so, but it’s easy to take off—I made ties which you can see near the back of the seat. And

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern. No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Heart-Attack-Inducing Scones

Captain's Log, Stardate 04.28.2011 Some of you will recognize the photo from my Facebook page yesterday. Yes, I made scones. Many of you know how much I loooooooove English High Tea (which, as my British friends tell me, most Brits don’t really do very often at all). I adore tea and scones. And Devonshire cream and jam. My favorite High Tea restaurant is Lisa’s Tea Treasures, one at the Pruneyard and one at Santana Row . They both have the most AWESOME scones on the planet. I have tried making scones lots of times and just could never seem to get them to taste like the Lisa’s Tea Treasures scones. Then I was reading Sandie Bricker’s novel, Always the Wedding Planner, Never the Bride for endorsement, and she has this amazing blueberry scones recipe that uses butter and cream. So naturally I had to make them. I did not have blueberries, although I anticipate getting strawberries in my co-op delivery on Friday, so I will make the scones again with strawberries on Friday. :

Aya's Fingerless Mitts knitting pattern

In Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 6: Martyr , Aya lends Keriah a pair of fingerless gloves since the room is so cold. I had a stitch pattern in mind, but not a yarn to use, so it took me a little while to knit this. I eventually decided to use a yarn that isn’t anything like the yarns available in the Regency, but it’s such a pretty yarn I didn’t care! The yarn is a Knit Picks Special Reserve yarn called Japanese Color Twist. I know that the colors were dyed by Japanese artisan dyers. It looks like they dyed the wool roving, and then the roving was spun into the yarn creating this wild colorway. The name of the colorway is Harajuku, which made me laugh since it’s exactly what I’d expect from the Land of Cosplay. The lace pattern is named “#79 Kind of Wave Running Across (very pretty for a purse),” originally published on pages 171-172 in The Lady's Assistant, volume 2 by Mrs. Jane Gaugain, published in 1842. Finding a Villain by Liz Johnson I heard someone say recently that it’s easier to write a villain than it is to write a hero. I think I’d have to agree. Villains have a consistent motive—their actions are always reflective of their goal. What is it that they want? What are they after? And to what lengths are they willing to go to achieve that? Once those things are nailed down, a villain can begin to take shape. Heroes and heroines aren’t always quite so black and white, their motives not always as clear, their actions ruled sometimes by more than just what they want. At least that’s been my experience. Writing Progress: Sushi and Suspicions

At the moment, I’m working on two books at once—the 7th volume of my Christian Regency romantic suspense Lady Wynwood’s Spies series , and also Sushi and Suspicions , a Christian contemporary romantic suspense which will be releasing in June in the multi-author box set Summer Suspicions.
