Bringing My Sushi Series to Amazon (Again)

When I first released the Sushi series, I had no idea how deeply readers would connect with Lex, Trish, Venus, and Jennifer—and with their wild, meddling aunties and one very stubborn grandma. The stories were a mix of my friends’ family chaos, my love of romantic comedy, and the joy (and frustration!) of navigating faith, friendships, and relationships as an Asian American Christian woman. Now that the rights have returned to me, I’m thrilled to be republishing the series on Amazon so a new generation of readers—and longtime fans—can dive back into the drama, the laughter, and the unforgettable auntie antics. Book 1, Sushi for One? , is available on Amazon now, and the rest of the series is up on preorder. Sushi for One? will go into Kindle Unlimited on May 19, 2025. Each book follows a different cousin in the extended Sakai family as they wrestle with romance, expectations, and God’s timing (and sometimes, Grandma’s interference). If you’re new to the series, here’s the ...

Mari Would Rather Face a Rottweiler Than This Conversation. (Year of the Dog Excerpt)

I finished Year of the Dog a couple of weeks ago and got it back from my editor and beta readers. It looks clean and will be released on May 13, 2025. (If you’re thinking of grabbing it, the preorder is still 70% off for a little while longer.) In the meantime, here’s a short snippet: *** “Are you all right?” Mari asked. “I’m fine, now.” Lana gulped. “The Rottweiler was only curious. I could tell he wasn’t going to attack, but I also didn’t want to take any chances.” Lana took a deep breath. “Tell me this,” she said in a more normal voice. “How can you face a 75-pound Rottweiler without blinking an eye, but you’re too afraid to face your own sister?” The words fell between them slow and measured, like huge water drops. Mari glanced back at the Rottweiler, then pictured her sister. Her stomach clenched again just at the mental image. “You’re absolutely right.” Then she sighed. “But it’s not like I can erase years of bickering, misunderstanding, and criticism in a single mome...

What I'm writing in my Christian Romantic Suspense Novel YEAR OF THE DOG

I just finished my last edits on Year of the Dog yesterday! Here’s a snippet from the book: *** Mari’s phone vibrated again. Before she answered, she cautioned Lana, “Taffy’s pulling too much. Don’t let him lead you—you’re the alpha dog. What is it, Brandy?” “Brandy?” asked a chuckling male voice. “I’ve been called lots of things, but never Brandy.” “Oops! Sorry, Uncle Herbie. I was just talking to my manager and thought she was calling me again.” In the background, Auntie Viola started whooping with laughter. “She called you Brandy?” “Anyway …” Uncle raised his voice to drown out his wife’s hooting. “I got a good opportunity for you, Mari.” “Opportunity? What do you mean?” Maybe a new client? She had room in her Thursday night class, or she could squeeze in another private session in her week. “D’you remember telling us about how lots of your Japanese clients were wishing you could kennel their dogs when they went back to Japan on trips?” “My dog resort idea? Yea...

Christian Romance Books Progress Update + A Peek at What’s Coming Next

Hi everyone! I have some fun writing news to share. I just finished inputting edits from my editor for my Christian romantic comedy suspense novel,  Year of the Dog . However — in true writer fashion — we caught one little loose thread that needs tying up. So, I’ll be adding a short scene to fully wrap up the story. After that, the book will be fully edited , proofread , and ready! What’s next? I’ll be diving into my Christian Regency romantic suspense novel,  Lady Wynwood’s Spies, Volume 8: Traitor . I had already written a few chapters before finishing Volume 7, but since I made a few tweaks during the editing process, I’ll be revising those chapters to make sure everything flows smoothly. I also have a bit more research to finish before I can fully immerse myself in Volume 8. Thank you so much for following along on this journey! And if you’d like to get behind-the-scenes updates, early chapters, and bonus content, I post regularly on Patreon: 👉 Visit my Patreon here

What I'm writing in YEAR OF THE DOG

I just finished writing Year of the Dog ! It had a massive plot hole that I had to fix which turned out to be more work than I expected. Here’s a snippet: “Hey, Auntie Nell.” He wrapped his arms around her, bussing her on the cheek and breathing in pikake flowers and shortbread cookies. And suddenly he was nine years old again, and her solid presence had made his chaotic world stable once more. “What are you doing here?” He usually took her to dinner on Wednesday nights, but today was Tuesday. The edges of her smile faltered a little before brightening right back up again. “What, I can’t visit my nephew?” She angled around him to enter his home. “Is this your new house? Looks lovely.” Which was a blatant lie, because the fixer-upper was barely livable, much less acceptable to a neat-freak like his aunt. She also left four matching pink and purple floral suitcases on the stoop behind her. Only then did Ashwin notice the cab driver standing slightly to the side of the walkway. “Can ...

Mokule‘ia Beach Park from Year of the Dog

In chapter 27 of Year of the Dog , Mari takes the dogs running at Moluke’ia Beach Park. My grandma and my parents would often take us here to swim when we were kids. It has a lot of rocks near the shore, but the sand is soft and fine, and the rocks are fun to snorkel around. The last time I went to Hawaii, I took some photos of the beach, so you can see what it looks like. Running on the beach is actually super tough, so Ashwin isn’t a weakling or anything like that—Mari is just a beast! Year of the Dog is releasing in the anthology, Danger in the Shadows . Get it for 70% off at the special preorder price of $2.99!

Wahiawa Botanical Garden from Year of the Dog

In chapter 22 of Year of the Dog , I mentioned the Wahiawa Botanical Garden annual calendar and the brownea flower that was the flower of the month. Wahiawa Botanical Garden is a really beautiful place where my grandfather used to work. He got lots of unusual plants that he grew in his backyard, including this really beautiful brownea flower, which is still blooming today in my parents’ yard. I don’t think they actually have an annual calendar (which is in the chapter), but I would like to think the brownea flower would be included. This 27-acre garden and forested ravine dates back to the 1930s when this land was used by sugar planters as an experimental arboretum. The last time I went, I also took pictures, which includes a really beautiful eucalyptus tree. I’m afraid I’m not a great photographer or I would have framed them better. Sorry! I love the Botanical Gardens because they’re just so beautiful! If you’re ever in Hawaii, consider going to the Wahiawa...

Tote Bag from Year of the Dog

In Year of the Dog , Mari discovers a moldy tote bag in chapter 18. She describes it a bit more in chapter 21. I actually bought fabric specifically to make the bag, although I haven’t yet hired anyone to make it yet. Here it is! The fabric is Golden Garden - Teal from Alexander Henry Fabrics Indochine collection. Isn’t it pretty? I saw it on Etsy and simply fell in love. I specifically wanted wooden zipper pulls for the bag, so I bought these hibiscus earrings made out of koa wood (from Etsy), and I’ll attach them to the zippers once I have the bag made for me.   The hibiscus will be significant for the story, as will the koa wood. When I get the bag made, I’ll be sure to post pictures!

Year of the Dog cover reveal!

This is the new cover for Year of the Dog! While I loved the old cover, since I’m rewriting Year of the Dog  with more suspense, I thought I should make a cover that’s more suspense-y, but still looks a bit fun and tropical (hence the pink title and purple palm trees). My graphic designer is slammed with work right now, so I decided to make the cover myself. What do you think? I’ll have my graphic designer tweak the cover later (when she’s got more time) but it shouldn’t change too much since I used the cover for Sushi and Suspicions  that she made for me as a general template to make this cover. I’m also making a logo for the new series which will go in the top right corner of the cover, but I want to wait until my graphic designer can look at it first.

Camy's Big News about a new (old) series!

I joined two Christian suspense multi-author anthologies that will release next year in May and October! The May anthology is Danger in the Shadows , and the October anthology is Don’t Blink . I have taken down Year of the Dog from my blog and will instead finish editing/rewriting it for the May anthology, Danger in the Shadows . I decided to do this because I was only working on Year of the Dog sporadically, and I wanted to set a deadline for myself to finish it sooner. To complicate matters, I’ve been unhappy with my decision to leave Sushi and Suspicions as a stand-alone rather than putting it in a series. And I’ve also been unhappy with putting The Lone Rice Ball as a 5th book in the Sushi series when it’s more romantic suspense than the other books in the series. Now that I’ll be writing Year of the Dog for the anthology, and because I haven’t yet released Sushi and Suspicions and The Lone Rice Ball as individual ebooks, I decided to switch things around. I’m rem...

Writing Progress - Sushi and Suspicions is done!

I finished writing Sushi and Suspicions and turned it in! To celebrate, I ate my favorite peach jelly from Minamoto Kichoan ! I was a bit surprised to realize at the end of the book that there wasn’t as much romance as in some of my other books, maybe because there were a lot of characters in this book compared to other romantic suspense novels I’ve written. Sushi and Suspicions will be releasing in June in the multi-author box set Summer Suspicions . Even though it’s a box set, each Christian Romantic Suspense novel in it is a full book, so it’s a great deal! Preorder Summer Suspicions for only 99 cents!

Writing Progress - Sushi and Suspicions

I had a terrible week for my IBS. The problem is that I don’t know what I ate that caused it. I’ve been keeping a food journal but no matter how much I pore over it, nothing jumps out as being the culprit. So unfortunately I didn’t get much done on Sushi and Suspicions , a Christian contemporary romantic suspense that will be releasing in June in the multi-author box set Summer Suspicions . I wanted to have finished it by now, but it’s just too hard for me to concentrate when I have nausea from the IBS. Please continue to pray for me! I really need the IBS symptoms to die down so I can finish this book! Preorder Summer Suspicions for only 99 cents!

Writing Progress - Sushi and Suspicions

I’ve been working on Sushi and Suspicions , a Christian contemporary romantic suspense which will be releasing in June in the multi-author box set Summer Suspicions . Trouble follows Liv on her vacation to Hawaii when she is framed for the theft of an antique rifle. Only a handsome investigator can help clear her name ... and maybe give her a reason to stay in the islands. If you want to read a snippet of what I wrote last week, check out my last newsletter !

Writing Progress: Sushi and Suspicions

At the moment, I’m working on two books at once—the 7th volume of my Christian Regency romantic suspense Lady Wynwood’s Spies series , and also Sushi and Suspicions , a Christian contemporary romantic suspense which will be releasing in June in the multi-author box set Summer Suspicions. I finally finished outlining Sushi and Suspicions and worked on chapter one. If you belong to my email newsletter, you’ll have read a sneak peek last week. Join my Camy Tang newsletter today!
