No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. In response to the outcry, Zondervan/Youth Specialities put out a sincere apology and is not only freezing the remaining stock of the book, but also reprinting it and replacing the copies people have already bought. I am very proud of my publisher for how they have handled this situation. The skit writers have also issued a public apology . Pink Sunshine Shawl

Captain's Log, Stardate 01.06.2010 While in Arizona, I visited three knitting stores (all I had time and money for, unfortunately!) and bought this gorgeous yarn by Colinette. The model had this silk colorway with a pink mohair, which made it more pink than I wanted because I already have a very pink shawl and while I love pink, I wanted something both dramatic and different from, well, pink. So I paired this mostly pink silk colorway yarn with a greenish yellow mohair to get this gorgeous shawl that looks like pink sunshine! If you’re on Ravelry, you can see my more detailed notes here . Here’s the shawl! Isn’t it pretty? The mohair makes it very light and airy, while the silk gives it beautiful drape. I edged it with gold glass beads.

Feeling blah and NaNoWriMo

Captain's Log, Stardate 11.03.2009 Forgive me for whining, but, well…I’m going to whine. I’ve been feeling like crap for several weeks. Tired. Headachy. Stomach a little nauseated. But no sniffles or sore throat or fever or anything “normal” in terms of flu or cold symptoms. I did find out that one of the youth group had the Swine flu (early stages) two Saturdays ago but I haven’t developed any symptoms, plus I was feeling poorly even before then. So what is wrong with me? Why can’t I shake this? This is seriously cramping my NaNoWriMo style. (What’s NaNoWriMo? National Novel Writing Month. 50,000 words in 30 days. Captain's Log, Stardate 05.05.2009 My mom sent me an email with these photos. I was astounded! Then I read this article that explains why these pictures are even more amazing. These flowers are the result of months of training the plants, using a special Japanese method, all for just a couple weeks of blooming. On a side note, My grandfather used to breed and show orchids and anthuriums. He kept them in the shade of his huge lychee tree. There were dozens upon dozens of pots of them. I remember my grandma watering the anthuriums for years after he died, keeping them alive. (My mom lurks on my blog sometimes--she might post about Grandpa's plants in the comments.)
