I just finished writing Year of the Dog ! It had a massive plot hole that I had to fix which turned out to be more work than I expected. Here’s a snippet: “Hey, Auntie Nell.” He wrapped his arms around her, bussing her on the cheek and breathing in pikake flowers and shortbread cookies. And suddenly he was nine years old again, and her solid presence had made his chaotic world stable once more. “What are you doing here?” He usually took her to dinner on Wednesday nights, but today was Tuesday. So I discovered yesterday that I might be fighting off a cold or flu or something, probably thanks to the flu shot I had a couple days ago. I wonder if that's why I've been so distracted and unfocused lately? I don't like blaming my health, but I've been struggling with my so many issues lately, why the hooch not? (and yes I realized I just made up a slang phrase and I don't care)
When I was younger, I used to get flu shots and I would ALWAYS get sick. So I stopped getting them (I think in college). Actually, now that I think about it, I think I got it a couple times when I was working in biotech research, but again, I always got sick and sometimes when you're doing biology research, you really can't just take a sick day. Sometimes you set up an experiment to go down on a specific day and it's simply not possible to put it off or have someone else to do it.
I'm feeling pretty craptastic so it's only kind of reinforcing my thoughts about flu shots. Did any of you get flu shots this year? I heard they were recommending it more because of Covid.
