Deep fried tripe

Captain's Log, Stardate 06.16.2009

I hope this doesn’t gross people out, but Captain Caffeine and I tried a new food last week!

This is deep fried tripe. The Captain got it from a Malaysian restaurant.





It’s tripe (well duh) deep fried (double duh) until it’s crispy. The consistency was a little harder than pork rinds. Then the tripe is coated in this sweet spicy sauce.

It was really yummy, although the sauce was a bit strong for me—I’d have preferred the sauce as a dipping sauce instead of smothering the tripe.

It was really neat to try something different. I don’t often get to try any Asian food that’s completely new to me.

Deep fried tripe are delicious! Haven't had them for years! Don't look real appetizing, but if you close your eyes and eat one, you're hooked.

I love being adventurous with food. I would try it, but it does not sound good. I'd be adventurous anyway :-)
