One Thousand Gifts-28

Captain’s Log, Stardate 12.15.2006

I’m participating in the “One Thousand Gifts” list from Christian Women Online. Click on the picture to find out more about it.

701. I finished the rough draft of my manuscript yesterday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now for revisions so I can get it to my critique partners.
702. I’m glad I got two bunches of celery at the grocery store because I went through the first bunch pretty fast this week.
703. I love eating celery—the crispy crunchy texture, the water exploding in my mouth when I bite into it.
704. I like oatmeal, too—the nutty flavor, the combination of soft and whole grain textures.
705. Made a dinner date with us, my parents, and my in-laws for the 23rd. I’m looking forward to good Mexican food!
706. I exercised yesterday!
707. I’m in day 29 of my Bible in 90 Days. I just started Ezra. It’s very inspiring how the people first rebuilt the altar to the Lord to restart the daily sacrifices even before Jerusalem had a wall, or they had laid the temple’s foundations. They were afraid of the local residents, but they were determined to be obedient to God. Their courage is inspiring to me to be strong when I’m afraid, too.
708. I ordered three CDs I’ve been wanting but hadn’t gotten (well, legally anyway)— Les Miserables the complete symphonic recording--I had a copy of this on cassette tape and I love it. Now I got the CDs and I’ll load it into my iPod.
709. Miss Saigon London cast--love this musical. Lea Salonga rocks.
710. The Scarlet Pimpernel concept album--I had this a long time ago and now I don’t know where mine is. I’m probably going to find this CD after I receive the replacement. I like the songs a lot. I’m thinking of getting The Scarlet Pimpernel Broadway cast but have to wait to see if I have enough money. It’s mostly the same songs and the ones that are different don’t sound that special when I listen to the clips on iTunes.
711. The next Broadway CD I’m getting is The Light in the Piazza.
712. After I finish my revisions, I’m going to start on Christmas cards to send our “family” photos to our relatives. If I had a scanner, I’d scan it in. It’s pretty cute. Snickers looks better than me or Captain Caffeine.
713. Captain Caffeine went to use the restroom in TGI Fridays and so he bought something out of guilt—garlic parmesan fries! Yum! They gave a LOT. We heated it up in the toaster oven and it tasted wonderful.
714. I’m SO GLAD I only ate a very small lunch today (more like a snack) because I got to eat fries for dinner!
715. I got to watch more CSI Miami tonight.
716. I downloaded Yahoo Messenger on my new laptop.
717. I remembered (finally) to write a condolence card to a friend of mine in Hawaii
718. Captain Caffeine and I had a laugh today when we were watching ESPN Sports Center and they showed a clip from a women’s college volleyball game, and at first we saw this one man who looked a lot like my dad, although the picture was fuzzy. But it was in Nebraska so we knew it couldn’t be him, but it did make us rewind the TiVo to take a second look.
719. My husband got me a canister of compressed air so I can clean my Alphasmart and my computer keyboard.
720. I got some great free Christmas songs from MyFreeMusicFriday.com! And not just redone usual Christmas songs, but new songs.
721. We got a dogsitter for Christmas vacation!
722. I lost a whole bunch of retained water because I’m 4 pounds lighter than I was yesterday.
723. Yesterday, my husband remembered to buy ingredients for the appetizer we’re bringing to his coworker’s party tonight.
724. My dog is so cute when she sidles up to one of us, hoping to be petted.
725. I’ll go to the post office today and get some mailing out of the way.

LOVE The Light in the Piazza. I really want to see the show live (I watched the Lincoln Center broadcast on PBS).
I just have to say that in my opinion their is a pretty big difference in the Broadway and concept Scarlet Pimpernel recordings. The orchestrations for one...much more "cohesive" because it sounds like a show (don't know if that makes sense) and, well, Terrance Mann is on the Broadway CD is Chauvelin and he's FABULOUS. *g*

"Sincerely" by TRUE (from Violet Evergarden)

I’ve been watching the anime Violet Evergarden on Netflix and it is possibly the most beautiful anime series I’ve ever seen. The animation by Kyoto Animation is top notch, the storyline (based on the light novel series ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデン by Kana Akatsuki (暁 佳奈)) is emotional and unique, and the original soundtrack by Evan Call is out of this world. The vocal songs in the series are also really beautiful, but the best one is the opening song, “Sincerely” by TRUE. She not only has a beautiful voice, but the melody and lyrics are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t rave about this song enough. 知らない言葉を 覚えていくたび おもかげのなか 手を伸ばすの Each time unknown words come to mind, I reach my hand toward the traces they leave. だけど一人では 分からない言葉も あるのかもしれない But there may be words That I can’t comprehend all alone. さよならは 苦くて アイシテルは 遠いにおいがした 例えようのない この想いは とても怖くて だけど とても愛おしくて “Goodbye” is so bitter, While “I love you” carries a far-off scent. This incomparable feeling Is so very frightening… bu...

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.14.2005 Knee update: I went to the doctor today for a checkup, and saw his assistant. I’ve been concerned because there’s still inflammation in my knee joint, and it’s been almost 4 months since the surgery. She said she’d talk to the doctor about it tomorrow and call me. Sometimes he suggests laying off the PT to see if that causes the inflammation to go away, but I don’t know if that will work because lately I’ve been pretty active outside of PT. At PT today, the therapist did ultrasound and some sort of electrical current on the joint. Hopefully that will make the inflammation start to go down. I’ll know by tomorrow, probably. Writing: Mt. Hermon conference starts this Friday! On Thursday night, I’ll be at the Santana Row Borders bookstore to help out (and hopefully learn a bit, too) at a booksigning for several of the ACFW authors who are attending Mt. Hermon . That should be lots of fun. I had a good brainstorming time at ...

Grace Livingston Hill romances free to read online

I wanted to update my old post on Grace Livingston Hill romances because now there are tons more options for you to be able to read her books for free online! I’m a huge Grace Livingston Hill fan. Granted, not all her books resonate with me, but there are a few that I absolutely love, like The Enchanted Barn and Crimson Roses . And the best part is that she wrote over 100 books and I haven’t yet read them all! When I have time, I like to dive into a new GLH novel. I like the fact that most of them are romances, and I especially appreciate that they all have strong Christian themes. Occasionally the Christian content is a little heavy-handed for my taste, but it’s so interesting to see what the Christian faith was like in the early part of the 20th century. These books are often Cinderella-type stories or A Little Princess (Frances Hodgson Burnett) type stories, which I love. And the best part is that they’re all set in the early 1900s, so the time period is absolutely fasci...

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern. Camy’s top-down Tabi Socks I’m assuming you already know the basics of knitting socks. If you’re a beginner, here are some great tutorials: Socks 101 How to Knit Socks The Sock Knitter’s Companion A video of turning the heel Sock Knitting Tips Yarn: I have used both fingering weight and worsted weight yarn with this pattern. You just change the number of cast on stitches according to your gauge and the circumference of your ankle. Th...
