Another 15 things about books

Captain’s Log, Supplemental

Blog book giveaway:
My Thursday book giveaway is RELUCTANT BURGLAR by Jill Elizabeth Nelson.
My Monday book giveaway is GEORGIA ON HER MIND by Rachel Hauck.
You can still enter both giveaways. Just post a comment on each of those blog posts. On Thursday, I'll draw the winner for RELUCTANT BURGLAR and post the title for another book I'm giving away.

Books, books, books:
I can’t help myself. I like this meme so much I’ve just kept adding to my list.

46) A few weeks ago I read BAD HEIRESS DAY by Allie Pleiter. My review is up on the Fab Four Book Picks blog.

47) I’m currently reading FLEE THE NIGHT by Susan May Warren.

48) I read RECONSTRUCTING NATALIE by Laura Jensen Walker, and BOY was it a fabulous book! Now I know why it was chosen as the Women of Faith Novel of the Year. It’s funny and poignant at the same time, a very uplifting chick-lit/women’s fiction novel.

49) I’m going through CAPTIVATING by John and Stasi Eldredge for my Blog Bible Study. It’s a very intellectually-stimulating book so far, partly because I don’t agree with some of it.

50) My bookshelf is OVERFLOWING. And if you look carefully, you’ll see those books are stacked two rows deep.

51) I still have books from my blog book giveaway to mail to the winners. Most of them are packaged up, I just need to get to the post office.

52) I spent a wonderful day on Sunday reading, taking a break from writing. It made me feel rejuvenated and fresh for writing on Monday. I think I’ll do it again next weekend.

53) I love eating while I read—bad habit, I know, so I’m careful to dole out portions before I start—but the one publication with which I will not eat and read is the Star magazine. I don’t know why. Maybe all those nubile Hollywood bods take away my appetite.

54) Did I mention my bookshelf is overflowing? In fact, I also have several plastic tubs full of books—some read, some not read. I bought a lot from garage sales and Goodwill. I found some of the best Regency romances from used book stores.

55) I adore Regency romances—the short sweet ones, not the longer sexy historical romances. Although I do read those, too—I just don’t enjoy them as much. Some of my favorite stories have been the older Regency romances published by Fawcett and Signet.

56) My first and favorite Regency romance was REGENCY MISS by Alix Melbourne. I remember being surprised at each plot twist, and I wanted to be the self-possessed heroine. I fell in love with the hero, who was very clever and a more dashing version of Mr. Darcy. It was told in a quick-witted way that kept me on my toes.

57) I read CHARACTERS, EMOTION AND VIEWPOINT by Nancy Kress, and it’s a very comprehensive. I’m very impressed. It’s an excellent, all-encompassing book that would help any intermediate writer. It makes for a good book to use for recommendations.

58) My friend Cheryl finished the rough draft of a book in about 2 weeks. Yup, you heard that right. When she’s recovered from her hip surgery, I intend to kill her.

59) When I do my brainstorming for my novel, I listen to music, but I didn’t often use music when laying down the manuscript until this last book. I used my iPod quite a bit. My favorite albums were MercyMe—Almost There, Spoken For, and Undone, Joy Williams—Genesis, Natalie Grant—Awaken, Rebecca St. James—If I Had One Chance To Tell You Something, Jump5—Dreaming In Color, ZOEgirl—Room to Breathe, Different Kind of Free, Mix of Life.

60) I just set down a book that I couldn’t finish because the premise is set up on a misunderstanding that could have been solved if people had just talked to each other. But then the heroine let herself get caught up in a deception rather than pushing to clear up the mistake. I realize she was desperate, and she had been trying to explain and kept being interrupted, but I expected more moral backbone from her. I hate books set up on premises like that. I feel disappointed in the character.

  1. Totally off subject ... but have you heard Margaret's new song yet? Coming Up For Air, yep, just like her book, is up on her MySpace site. I actually broke down and signed up just to comment on it. So, now what do I do with my MySpace space? ; )

    Just me. donna

No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter st until liner measures
