Slow Down Saturday

I got kind of stressed out by the stuff I have to do for my book launch (the 2nd book in my Lady Wynwood’s Spies series ), which is coming up on February 17th. I have a To Do list with everything that needs to be done, but I get paranoid that I’ve forgotten something, and it makes me anxious. I try to slow down my workload on weekends, especially Sundays, but I was reminded on Thursday that sometimes I need to slow down midweek because I’m only piling on stuff that adds to my stress levels. The cluttered and scattered state of my head was making it hard for me to get work done. So I simplified my book launch process and adjusted my launch calendar for the 3rd book in my series, which will release in May. Just by eliminating things on my To Do list, and consolidating and adjusting due dates so I can get more done in advance, made me feel tons better. So today for Slow Down Saturday, is there something you can simplify or eliminate to make your life easier? Never underestimate th...

Gray counterpane

I haven’t posted my knitting in a while, mostly because I’ve been working on long projects rather than little simple ones, and for some reason I can’t do one project at a time, I tend to have several going at once. One of those projects is this knitted counterpane or bedspread. I’ll eventually post the entire pattern, but it’s adapted from the No. 52 Counterpane with Diamond Stripe that was published in 1888 in the Young Ladies' Journal Complete Guide to the Work-Table, Sixth Edition , pages 71-74. You can download a free PDF scan of the original antique book at the link above. It’s knit in strips which are then sewn together lengthwise, although I connected the strips using single crochet, which I think made the joins a little more sturdy. I intend to add an edging from the same book on the bottom. I did each diamond pattern repeat a total of five times, which made each strip about 90” long, and the edging would go on each short end and make it about 108” long. I’m thinking...

Lady Wynwood's Spies playlist

If you're following my Writing Diary Blog , you might remember that I'm trying to establish writing rituals to help me to get into flow state faster and easier, and also to encourage me to be more self-disciplined in my writing schedule. One of the rituals I've adopted has been to play the same playlist when I write. I usually can't write to songs with words, so I've been listening to movie and TV show soundtracks. Right now I'm working on my Lady Wynwood’s Spies series , and what I chose to listen to is the Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn Original Soundtrack by Sawano Hiroyuki. He’s my favorite composer and I love his J-pop songs too, but his soundtracks are out of this world. I know it's kind of strange that the music I'd pick to listen to while writing my Regency romantic adventure series is a Science Fiction anime series soundtrack, but since Lady Wynwood's Spies is my mashup of Mission: Impossible in the Regency period, it's not that di...

Slow Down Saturday

Hi, it’s Camy for another Slow Down Saturday. I just heard that some of my relatives contracted Covid. They’re doing okay for now, thank the Lord. But in these uncertain times, let’s remind each other that God made us, that God tells us not to fear, and we have the comfort of knowing that we belong to God. Please continue to pray for me, and I’d like to pray for you, too! Feel free to leave me an anonymous prayer request at my Prayer Request form .

Photo inspiration for my main heroine, Phoebe

My first novel published in five years just released this past December, Lady Wynwood’s Spies 1: Archer , the first volume in a Christian Regency Romantic Adventure Serial Novel (yeah, I know, that’s quite a mouthful). Basically, it's like a really long novel divided into parts. Each volume has a story arc, but the overarching story continues in each volume and they're not stand-alone novels. It’s been outlined for 10 volumes, plus a side volume, and I already released two prequel novels. When I write, I like to have a visual idea of what my characters looks like. I also like to extrapolate the personality of the character from the photos I use, so I'm very careful about the model and their pose or the expression on their face. But lately I haven’t been using real photos, and instead using anime and manga characters. When I first started writing about my main heroine, Phoebe, the photos I used for reference for her personality and looks was this character, Ryu, who i...

Slow Down Saturday

Last year right after Thanksgiving, I had a couple weeks of pretty bad burnout. I had been working hard since July to improve my writing productivity, and I had been doing well, but I hadn’t been taking enough time out for myself to recharge, and I certainly hadn’t been spending much time alone with God. So I spent two weeks mentally drained. Since then, I’ve been trying to remember to make it a priority to spend time reading my Bible everyday. It's hard, sometimes, because I just want to keep busy and get done everything on my To Do list, but when I sit down and meditate on a Bible verse, I've been feeling God speak to me and convict me. What are some of your favorite Bible verses? Was there a particular passage or verse you happened to read today? Share it with me below!
