I just finished writing Year of the Dog ! It had a massive plot hole that I had to fix which turned out to be more work than I expected. Here’s a snippet: “Hey, Auntie Nell.” He wrapped his arms around her, bussing her on the cheek and breathing in pikake flowers and shortbread cookies. And suddenly he was nine years old again, and her solid presence had made his chaotic world stable once more. “What are you doing here?” He usually took her to dinner on Wednesday nights, but today was Tuesday. The edges of her smile faltered a little before brightening right back up again. “What, I can’t visit my nephew?” She angled around him to enter his home. “Is this your new house? Looks lovely.” Which was a blatant lie, because the fixer-upper was barely livable, much less acceptable to a neat-freak like his aunt. I was really excited to get a chance to taste this Cinnamon Apple flavored matcha from Adagio. This would actually be a really good gift for any tea lover, because it’s very good quality matcha.
I have a bamboo match whisk, but you can use a regular whisk to make matcha. I especially love matcha lattes when the weather is colder.
I combine 2 teaspoons of sugar with 1.5 teaspoons of matcha. Most recipes say to make the matcha first and then add the sugar to the heated milk before combining the tea and milk, but I do it at this step because I’m lazy. Also this way, the sugar dissolves better than it does in milk.
I splash in a couple tablespoons of near-boiling water and whisk until it’s frothy. Then I add 0.5 cup of heated almond milk. I usually heat up my almond milk in the microwave.
The apple cinnamon flavor is surprisingly subtle. The matcha flavor is what really stands out, and it’s good quality matcha. The cinnamon apple is delicious when combined with the matcha.
I also tasted it without the milk and it’s a bit too strong for my preference, so a bit of milk added makes it just right for me.
If you give the Cinnamon Apple Matcha a try, let me know how you liked it!
