Poll: ebook readers/iPads/Tablets

I saw this question on Goodreads and thought I’d ask this here:

If you have BOTH an ereader (Kindle, Nook, Kobo, etc.) AND a Tablet (iPad, iPad Mini, etc.) or a smarphone, which do you use predominantly for reading ebooks? And WHY?

I have an iPad, iPhone, and a Nook Simple Touch. I really like the e-ink screen of the Nook, but I have to admit that turning pages is easier on my iPad and iPhone because the screen is more responsive. I will usually prop up my iPad and read using my Nook app, and I’ll be able to eat or knit (something simple) while I read.

If I go on my exercise bike, then I’ll usually use my Nook Simple Touch since it’s a nice size to read on.

However, if I’m out and waiting in line or something (like at the post office) I’ll usually whip out my iPhone and start reading on my Nook app while I’m in line. It’s nice always having my books with me!

So how about you? And be sure to say exactly why you use what you use to read!

Camy! You are the tech queen! I only have a Kindle. I take it with me. However, I might get an iPad sometime this year. Can you also do writing on the iPad? Maybe someday I can get an iPhone too.

So, I only have a Kindle to use for reading. Sigh.

I have an original iPad and now I have the Nexus 7 and my android phone that have the Kindle app. I did have a 2nd gen Kindle but my son broke it :(
I now use the Nexus 7 the most because it's the one I carry in my purse. I use my phone if for some reason I don't have the Nexus or if the battery has gone dead. I love the size of the Nexus.

Hi Camy,

I have an ipad (1st generation) and a Nook. I use the ipad far more, because of the apps where I can switch back and forth between Kindle, ibooks, diesel and Nook. I just don't use the nook as much. I might see myself getting a Kindle, because of their borrowing program, but Nook doesn't have that, nor do they discount their e-books.

*Android phone: read online contents mainly when I can't get network for my laptop/tablet etc. Also smaller and more convenient than tablet. Cons: hard to read for a long time, short battery life.

*Kindle: reading actual book contents. Easy to read for long time, don't need network connection, great battery life.

*laptop: multi-task - can read and do FB, email, chat at the same time. ;) Almost never read kindle content on laptop.

I have a Kindle and a Nook, but I prefer to read books with the Kindle. Somehow it's more comfortable to hold than the Nook.And it doesn't slide off pillows if I read in bed at night. But I do read magazines on the Nook, because I can enlarge them and skim. The Nook battery seems to need re-charging all the time though.

We are talking about getting an iPad but right now I have a Kindle and love it! I have read on the iPod Touch but I found it to be annoying because I felt like had to turn the page every 10 sec or so. If we do get an iPad I have a feeling I won't be doing much reading on it since my hubby and kids will probable be playing/using it. I really like the screen/view of the Kindle. It's easy on the eyes and I feel like I could read on it all day. I still prefer a physical book but I can get so many book free and/or instantly on the Kindle that it makes it more and more attractive.

Yes, I have a couple friends who use the iPad for writing! they got a bluetooth keyboard to hook up to it and they're ready to go!

That's really interesting to know! Thanks! I heard some other people on Goodreads mention that they like the size of the Mini over the regular iPad.

Yes, I also use the different reading apps on my iPad, especially Bluefire and iBooks. I thought about getting a Kindle because of their borrowing program, but I also noticed that the Kindle borrowing program only allows one book a month. With my Nook, I can go into any B&N store and read any ebook for free for an hour, so you're limited on time rather than number of books. I've done that a few times.

Do you have a Nook Color or Nook Tablet? I'm guessing so, because I would think it would be hard to read magazines on the Nook Simple Touch. :)

LOL you must read fast! I do find I have to turn pages a lot, but it's really handy to be able to always have a book to read wherever I am, standing in line or whatever. It's why I love ebooks, since I can sync my phone apps to my Nook and Kindle accounts.

Captain’s Log, Stardate 10.13.2006 Heroes: I’m a TV junkie, I admit it. I’m hooked on the new series called Heroes. (It’s like X-Men, but before they realized their powers and came together to become the X-Men. And without the funky costumes.) ICRS Tuesday

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.11.2007 I started the day with a great meeting with Al Hsu , an editor at InterVarsity Press. We discussed Asian Americans—fiction, non-fiction, the church, family. He’s been in publishing for many years and is very wise. We had a great discussion. I also met his wife Ellen, who’s totally nice and is also into card-making! I wandered the floor and happened to meet Robin Jones Gunn. She asked if I’d eaten yet, and since I hadn’t, said to join her for lunch. On the way to lunch, we met Mark Mynheir, and he gave me a copy of his book, got The Void . Isn’t that cool? Robin has so much wisdom. I loved having lunch with her. She gave me such good advice, both professionally and spiritually. I hope I’ll get a chance to have lunch or dinner with her at the ACFW conference in September. I GOT A CONTRACT!

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.29.2006 I had a wonderfully funny blog post planned for today, but I got sidetracked by some news yesterday! Zondervan has offered me a three-book contract on my Asian chick-lit series ! I’m still stunned by everything that’s happened. The series is actually a 4-book projected Asian chick-lit series about four cousins who fall under the infamous family title "Oldest Single Female Cousin," and their ruthless, wealthy grandma applies pressure on each of them to improve their lack of love interests. I think the first book is tentatively scheduled to be released in August 2007. The blurb on the series is on my website here . Ironman

Captain's Log, Stardate 11.12.2008 I realize I’m late in posting this, but I just saw Ironman a couple weeks ago and it was FABULOUS! It was the most entertaining movie I’ve seen in a long time. I even liked it better than Mr. and Mrs. Smith (although that flick is a close second). I think because the acting was great. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow were fantastic. I especially liked how the Pepper character is an older woman with more maturity than, say, MaryJane in Spiderman . Pepper was strong, intelligent, and relatively cool under fire. And did you guys catch the Easter Egg at the end of the credits??? Awesome!!!
