The Hobbit

Did anyone see it yet? I totally want to see it, but probably not in the theater because I have too small of a bladder. :( But I did get the audiobook read by Rob Inglis from Audible.com! I got the Lord of the Rings trilogy, too! Has anyone listened to the audiobooks?

I saw it. Our son wanted to so I went with him on Monday. I always drink a lot of water so I didn't make it through the movie without the "break" but I didn't miss anything. I guess they added a few things that weren't in the book (I never read it but son did.)
They are really stretching it out to get the three movies out of it.

we have the audio book too, and love it. plus w have an old cartoon version that is pretty neat. my darling husband took me on opening weekend to see it in Imax 3D, very cool. just like the LOTR trilogy, take it for Pete Jackson`s interpretation, although we have an old cartoon of the fellowship that I think he copied - same missing parts. in the hobbits movie, there was a LOT more battle scenes. when you watch the movie, try not to compare it to the book. a lot is the same, but again, artistic interpretation is the key!
also, the hobbit is an adventure, lighthearted, full of missteps and new characters. LOTR is the battle of good vs evil, and the trials of doing good for the sake of all. the hobbits movie is a little darker than I expected, but goes well with LOTR, but not as funny. still not one for the kids to watch, which is a major bummer since they know the book so well an play the very cool Lego video game.
Pete Jackson has a video blog about the making the hobbits trilogy, an in it he talks about using the appendixs, which works out pretty well. I've also has some good discussion about how on will break up the last two. I think he is also adding a lot of build- up for the why to LOTR (like how we got to learn the events that shape young Skywalker into dDarth Vader.)

I hope that you can understand this posting! this is my first attempt at typing on my new kindle! an it is a bit unnerving how it changes some o my words.
yes, see the hobbit in the theater, Don`t worry about your bladder as there are enough unnecessary battle scenes to skip. :) enjoy the audio book!!

Another thought that I wanted to add - while the Hobbit is an adventure, it is also about greed. Greed (and homesickness) sent the dwarves back to their mountain. Even after the dragon was slain, there was the Battle of Five Armies over the gold. The master of Laketown ran off with his share, and died a greedy, horrible person. As we have nearly finished reading the novel outloud again, I thought of all the things that Peter Jackson will be able to use in the 3rd movie. I am sure that the 2nd will be very full, with Beorn, Mirkwood, and Smaug & Bilbo, but I look forward to PJ's interpretation. :) Have a very merry, and blessed, Christmas!

I was not sure if I would be able to see it in theaters due to lack of funds but I was blessed with a free ticket. Got to go with a with a big group from church last week very last minute but I jumped at the chance. Saw it 3D and it was very epic. I was surprised when I first learned there would be three movies but I thought that part one worked well, did not find it too slow at all. I would go see it again in a heartbeat and I can't wait until next December when part 2 hits the theaters. Now if I can just get a ticket for Les Mis.......

Yes, tickets can be very pricey! Here they're $10/ticket and if you have a family of 4, with popcorn and stuff it's almost $100 for a night at the movies!

I GOT A CONTRACT!

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.29.2006 I had a wonderfully funny blog post planned for today, but I got sidetracked by some news yesterday! Zondervan has offered me a three-book contract on my Asian chick-lit series ! I’m still stunned by everything that’s happened. The series is actually a 4-book projected Asian chick-lit series about four cousins who fall under the infamous family title "Oldest Single Female Cousin," and their ruthless, wealthy grandma applies pressure on each of them to improve their lack of love interests. I think the first book is tentatively scheduled to be released in August 2007. The blurb on the series is on my website here . Romantic guys

Captain’s Log, Stardate 10.13.2006 Heroes: I’m a TV junkie, I admit it. I’m hooked on the new series called Heroes. (It’s like X-Men, but before they realized their powers and came together to become the X-Men. And without the funky costumes.) Okay, regardless of the X-Men type storyline, one of the heroines—a high school girl—is talking to a boy she likes, the quarterback of the football team. He’s sweet-talking her and being very flattering. She says he doesn’t really know her very well. He goes into this romantic spiel about how he notices she draws unicorns in the margins of her notes in class, etc. Now here I pause the TiVo and turn to Captain Caffeine. Skeptical Asian wife: “That’s so un-guy-like! ICRS Tuesday

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.11.2007 I started the day with a great meeting with Al Hsu , an editor at InterVarsity Press. We discussed Asian Americans—fiction, non-fiction, the church, family. He’s been in publishing for many years and is very wise. We had a great discussion. I also met his wife Ellen, who’s totally nice and is also into card-making! I wandered the floor and happened to meet Robin Jones Gunn. She asked if I’d eaten yet, and since I hadn’t, said to join her for lunch. On the way to lunch, we met Mark Mynheir, and he gave me a copy of his book, got The Void . Isn’t that cool? Robin has so much wisdom. I loved having lunch with her. She gave me such good advice, both professionally and spiritually. I hope I’ll get a chance to have lunch or dinner with her at the ACFW conference in September. Ironman

Captain's Log, Stardate 11.12.2008 I realize I’m late in posting this, but I just saw Ironman a couple weeks ago and it was FABULOUS! It was the most entertaining movie I’ve seen in a long time. I even liked it better than Mr. and Mrs. Smith (although that flick is a close second). I think because the acting was great. Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow were fantastic. I especially liked how the Pepper character is an older woman with more maturity than, say, MaryJane in Spiderman . Pepper was strong, intelligent, and relatively cool under fire. And did you guys catch the Easter Egg at the end of the credits??? Awesome!!!
