I admit it, I’m a breakfast hater. I have never liked it because I have always woken up with a slightly queasy stomach. My family has a history of acidic stomachs, so my genes might have something to do with it. (I used to live off of TUMS and Zantac and just got tired of needing to take something every day for a queasiness that lasts only 60-90 minutes.)

I have tried forcing myself to eat a large breakfast, especially because most research shows that people who eat breakfast tend to be more successful at losing weight. But forcing myself to eat made me so sick I’d usually either skip or postpone lunch, both of which are bad.

When I read this article on quick and healthy breakfast ideas, I expected the usual stuff like a smoothie or egg white veggie omelet (which are listed). But I was also pleasantly surprised to see a few ideas I hadn’t read before, like making waffles, freezing them, and toasting them in the morning. For some reason I hadn’t thought of doing that, although I have tried freezing pancakes and microwaving them (yuck).

The casserole idea wasn’t entirely new, because I used to sometimes have dinner leftovers for breakfast when I was living at home, but for some reason it sparked the idea of making a breakfast casserole or a veggie frittata, which I hadn’t tried before. There are lots of unusual breakfast casseroles I think I’d like to try, and they don’t have to be just eggs and sausage ones.

Any breakfast ideas you have for me?

  1. I grew up with hypoglycemia and so was forced to eat early in the morning because of that. When I was 14, my parents did an experiment that actually took care of my issue and found that actually not eating breakfast helped me! So.....experiment! I only weight about 94 I don't think it has caused weight issues.

  2. WOW! Thanks Martha! Maybe I will experiment a bit. I have always tried to force myself to eat. All the diet books say that after a while you start feeling hungry in the morning but that has NEVER happened to me, even when I was consistently eating breakfast for 3-4 months at a stretch. It never occurred to me that not eating might not be a bad thing.

  3. I think sometimes some people might just not need food as early....try eating a little later and see if you like it better.

  4. Okay, I'll do that. It's worth a shot, right?

  5. Whenever we make pancakes and waffles we make a ton then freeze them. I have found that if you throw them in the toaster oven they are better than the microwave. I also like it 'cause I can toast two then hand them to my two little kids and go for a run while they eat. ;)

No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter st until liner measures

I posted my introductory post yesterday on the Sweet Romance Reads blog (Blogger), where I listed three strange things about me.
