Captain's Log, Stardate 05.13.2009

I was at the Love Inspired authors blog talking about my two favorite things: knitting and reading!

Camy Tang here, with another weird combination. :)

I love the feel of a book in my hands—I love the smell of the paper, the pretty cover.

I also love knitting. The only thing I don’t like about knitting is that it takes up both my hands so I can’t hold a book (although knitting is a good way to stop snacking at night, since I can’t knit and shovel food in my mouth at the same time!).

So what a knitting reader to do?

AUDIOBOOKS! This is exactly why God had us invent audible.com, library downloads, and the iPod (or in my case the Blackberry.

I just listened to my first audiobook and loved it (The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society)! Spring cleaning went so much nicer as I listened.

Definitely Audiobooks. If I may, I suggest

1) the Hound of the Baskervilles
2) any audiobooks by Lori Wick
3) Ivanhoe (try to find one that doesn't include the forward. Otherwise you'll have to skip forward about an hour before you can get to the story)
4) Anne of Green Gables series
5) And if you just want some laughs, try to find the Freddy the Pig series by Walter R. Brooks. It was written a few decades ago, but they're some really cute and funny stories.

I should have mentioned audiobooks in my post! Alas, not all the books I want to read are available as audiobooks, like the Love Inspired romances.

I just finished the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! It was GREAT!

Thanks for the other audiobook recommendations, Sasafras! I was actually thinking about buying the Anne of Green Gables audiobook just the other day.

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. Grace Livingston Hill romances free to read online

I wanted to update my old post on Grace Livingston Hill romances because now there are tons more options for you to be able to read her books for free online! I’m a huge Grace Livingston Hill fan. Granted, not all her books resonate with me, but there are a few that I absolutely love, like The Enchanted Barn and Crimson Roses . And the best part is that she wrote over 100 books and I haven’t yet read them all! When I have time, I like to dive into a new GLH novel. I like the fact that most of them are romances, and I especially appreciate that they all have strong Christian themes.
