The dog days of summer

Captain's Log, Stardate 06.13.2008

A problem Snickers has during the summer is that she gets really hot.



The problem for me is that she drinks lots of water. And most of it does not get inside her.



Yes, you’re seeing that right. She has water on her nose, which splashed up because she was slurping her water so violently.

After she drinks, there are rivers running down from her mouth onto the floor. Rivers, I tell you!

It’s both good and bad that her water bowl is in the kitchen. Good because it’s easy to mop up the water from the linoleum. Bad because the water makes the linoleum slippery, and it’s hard to see the water ponds on the floor.

Does anyone else have a dog who doesn’t know how to drink properly???

First, your dog is too cute. :) Second, I know exactly what you are talking about. My German Shepherd is the same way only I don't have to deal with just the rivers coming off her mouth. I also get to deal with her cooling off by putting her paw in the water bowl which as you can imagine makes a big mess.

I can't keep my lab mix from drinking from the toilet. No matter how much water he has in his bowl, he prefers the toilet.

Angie and Charmed, you both have it worse than I do. At least she doesn't leave water paw prints and she definitely doesn't drink out of the toilet. I feel for you guys!

No, but I actually have a cat who will dunk her chin in water when drinking, or she will put her paw in and leave little wet pawprints all over the place! Your dog is a doll, BTW!

We have a chocolate lab who also trails puddles onto the floor, or stops drinking mid-slurp and greets us, ending with wet pants right before dinner.

I no longer have a pet cat but thankfully she didn't drink from the toilet but i think in australia they would about drown trying to.
That was one thing i found interesting in Canada and Hawaii.
The toilets have so much water in them!
the problem we had with horse is if she decided to catch a bird or mouse she liked to take them into the toilet to play. it use to be a race to see who would get to the back door to shut it first (the toilet is of the laundry which is off the back porch.

Not only does my tiny little West Highland TERROR, Lizzie, drink a ton and gets it all over the kitchen tile, but she then drinks so much, she urps some of it back up! Ugh! I've tried gaging it by giving her less, but she jumps on my cabinets or the dishwasher if she wants a drink (by the sink) and begs for more. I guess it is cleansing.

Anyway, I love Snickers the Wonder Dog. Maybe keep him a towel by his water bowl. Towel off, Dude!

We put a big rug under Vader's water bowl hoping to catch most of the water that didn't make it to his mouth, but he seems to prefer wiping his face on the sofa. oh well.

Pepper likes to blow bubbles in his bowl! My hubbie puts ice cubes in his bowl and Pepper has to go bobbing for them.
Waterboy that he is that means dunking to get the ice cube. Then he carries left over water in his cheeks and carries it around the house. Much messier than your little guy:) sueb

I GOT A CONTRACT!

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.29.2006 I had a wonderfully funny blog post planned for today, but I got sidetracked by some news yesterday! Zondervan has offered me a three-book contract on my Asian chick-lit series ! I’m still stunned by everything that’s happened. The series is actually a 4-book projected Asian chick-lit series about four cousins who fall under the infamous family title "Oldest Single Female Cousin," and their ruthless, wealthy grandma applies pressure on each of them to improve their lack of love interests. I think the first book is tentatively scheduled to be released in August 2007. The blurb on the series is on my website here . Window shopping

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.14.2005 Knee update: I went to the doctor today for a checkup, and saw his assistant. I’ve been concerned because there’s still inflammation in my knee joint, and it’s been almost 4 months since the surgery. She said she’d talk to the doctor about it tomorrow and call me. Sometimes he suggests laying off the PT to see if that causes the inflammation to go away, but I don’t know if that will work because lately I’ve been pretty active outside of PT. At PT today, the therapist did ultrasound and some sort of electrical current on the joint. Hopefully that will make the inflammation start to go down. I’ll know by tomorrow, probably. Writing: Mt. Hermon conference starts this Friday! On Thursday night, I’ll be at the Santana Row Borders bookstore to help out (and hopefully learn a bit, too) at a booksigning for several of the ACFW authors who are attending Mt. Hermon . Favorite chocolate?

Captain's Log, Stardate 04.22.2008 Lately I’ve been on this chocolate kick. Normally, I’m not a huge chocoholic like Captain Caffeine. I enjoy chocolate, but if given a choice, I’ll usually choose a fruit or custard/creamy dessert over a triple decadence chocolate layer cake or a chocolate-lovers’ downfall brownie. But lately, I’ve been eating dark chocolate squares. I think it started when I went into Joseph Schmidt gourmet chocolate shop in Santana Row. We’d gotten Joseph Schmidt truffles for Christmas, and they’d been fabulous—I can honestly say that they were as good as DeBrand truffles (author Colleen Coble’s favorite). So when I saw the brick and mortar shop in Santana Row, I went in immediately. Inside, this man was buying up stacks—and I kid you not, stacks —of the Joseph Schmidt Belgian Dark Chocolate bars. Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern.
