Irrational loves

Captain's Log, Stardate 10.09.2007

Today I went to lunch with my friend Dineen, and afterwards, we headed into Borders just to browse.

Borders has this section full of cute little notebooks. Small ones, big ones, colored paper ones, you name it. They also have pens and wallets and zippered bags and iPod cases.

I must have spent at least thirty minutes just going ga-ga over the stupid little notebooks!

What is it with notebooks and me? I can count the number of them that I’ve actually filled on the fingers of one hand. I have them all over the house, most with only a page or two written on, and an entire BOX of new ones in my closet.

And I keep coveting more!

This thing with notebooks is completely irrational. I cannot understand it, and I cannot stop it.

I also cannot seem to fill them with any speed. And considering how much I like to talk, that’s pathetic. I should at least be able to spout nothings enough to fill a few.

But when I open it to write inside, a part of my brain suddenly insists that I must only write meaningful things on the sacred pages. With a good pen, no cheap ballpoints. And then, of course, I have very little to say.

Isn’t that completely stupid?

What about you? Any irrational loves?

I am SO glad I'm not the only one who has an obsession with journals and notebooks! I do have some that I've bought to use for sermon notes, including the leather-bound one I'm using now. But then there are the others--the ones I've picked up off the discount shelf or rescued from the bargain bin. I always think I'll use them just for writing, since I don't journal. But then when I look at them and the cheap spiral notebook beside them, I always pick up the cheap spiral notebook to write in. And I tell myself I'm going to stop buying those expensive, lined-paper books if I'm not going to use them.

But I still can't help browsing the journals section of B&N every time I go in.

I have the same addiction! I have hundreds of unused spiral notebooks sitting around, waiting for my brilliant entries that never seem to come!

Blank journals. Same thing. Oh, and gel pens.
I covet a blown glass dip pen set from The Victorian Trading Company. And stationary, I love stationary! I just never write letters anymore, lol.

I also must confess to an obsession with note books, but I have never written in the same one more then twice. I am also have an uncontrolable collection of Scrapbook Paper, similar to my mothers out of control fabric stash.

Oh my. I do that too. I just bought another one and feel like I need to use it, but I can't think of the "right" thing to use it for.
It must be a writer thing! I can spend endless gobs of time in the office supply store. I adore notebooks, journals, and office products in general. Folders, Post-its, pens, index cards, highlighters...need I go on?

Oh, yes, Georgiana brought up my other addiction: POST-IT NOTES! When I was at Staples the other day, I literally had to keep repeating to myself, "No Post-its, no Post-its. Not allowed to buy any more Post-its--I don't care how cute the new shapes or colors are."
Ha! My obession is sooo different. I am into sets of dishes and tea sets. Oh and I love silver because I just might inherit a palace some day and find a need to fill it.
You collect notebooks the way I collect yarn, lol. Though here in Korea I have hardly any...it's all back in Canada waiting for me!

I love notebooks too. I don't allow myself to walk through the school section in stores anymore bc inevitably I will leave with a few.

Although I do fill mine (the $.10 back-to-school sale ones)

I have an entire BOOKSHELF full of little notebooks and journals. Every time I buy one, I promise myself that this time, I'm actually going to fill it... and I don't.

Ha! And I thought my aunt and I were the only ones who "collected" journals. I'm glad to know we're not alone. :)

Have you checked out the notebooks at Barnes and Noble, they have these really thick, luxurious pages that just beg to be written on with a fancy pen. Yeah, I have a notebook fetish myself.
