One Thousand Gifts-23

Captain’s Log, Stardate 12.10.2006

I’m participating in the “One Thousand Gifts” list from Christian Women Online. Click on the picture to find out more about it.

576. Thank You God for Your help in finishing this manuscript. I can feel Your power when I stop and pray.
577. Thank you also to all the friends who are praying for me to finish!
578. I rearranged my scene index so now I think I have a better feel for how the climax is going to go.
579. I was really good and only ate half of my Vietnamese sandwich for lunch. It was perfect because I took longer to eat it, so I was just as satisfied as if I’d eaten the whole thing. Those sandwiches are yummy!
580. The Candy Apple tea from Adagio.com is really good! I think I will order more of this and the Candy Cane so I can drink it after the Christmas season ends.
581. I exercised yesterday! I think that means I’ve exercised every day this week!
582. Captain Caffeine was nice enough to go get our dog’s ear cleaning solution from the vet today so I wouldn’t have to go later this week.
583. I love the cozy feeling of being inside a warm house while it’s raining outside. The sound of the rain is nice.
584. I did some of my accounting today.
585. I’m finally getting the hang of Quicken. I’m just not sure if I’m getting all the categories right.
586. A kid from our church youth group took a video when they were bowling together of another kid named Tim, and the video was 3rd on the Yahoo video page.
587. I have the privilege of reading an excerpt from a high school girl’s testimony today at her baptism.
588. I got a few Regency romances from some new authors. Maybe I’ll find a new favorite author!
589. I love being able to pray for people (and with all my blog readers) on Sundays
590. I get a $100 rebate on the Microsoft Office 2004 software I just bought!
591. I got paid for an article I wrote! Money is always a good thing.
592. I’m on day 24 of my Bible in 90 Days. The kings of Israel and Judah are kind of depressing because only some of them obeyed God, and most of them didn’t obey Him completely, probably for political reasons like, oh, the entire nation would rebel and depose them if they got rid of all the pagan shrines. I just got to the Assyrian exile, which is just a sad point in the Israelite history.
593. Just watched a bunch of CSI Miami episodes on A&E. That show is so addictive. Now Captain Caffeine is thinking of Tivo-ing CSI NY to try watching a few episodes of that, too.
594. Baked Lay’s are yummy and good for my creativity, even if it’s not exactly great for my hips.
595. I’m figuring out how the Genesis contest is going to come together next year, which is nice to know. I just like being organized.
596. I switched mice on my desktop computer so now it’s a bit easier for me to navigate around.
597. My desk is clearer than it’s been in a long time, which makes me happy.
598. My calorie count yesterday was in a good range.
599. I’ve been better about not giving my dog as many “free” scratches without making her do something first.
600. I’m exciting thinking about what I’d like to do once I finish this manuscript.

"Sincerely" by TRUE (from Violet Evergarden)

I’ve been watching the anime Violet Evergarden on Netflix and it is possibly the most beautiful anime series I’ve ever seen. The animation by Kyoto Animation is top notch, the storyline (based on the light novel series ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデン by Kana Akatsuki (暁 佳奈)) is emotional and unique, and the original soundtrack by Evan Call is out of this world. The vocal songs in the series are also really beautiful, but the best one is the opening song, “Sincerely” by TRUE. She not only has a beautiful voice, but the melody and lyrics are absolutely gorgeous. I can’t rave about this song enough. 知らない言葉を 覚えていくたび おもかげのなか 手を伸ばすの Each time unknown words come to mind, I reach my hand toward the traces they leave. だけど一人では 分からない言葉も あるのかもしれない But there may be words That I can’t comprehend all alone. さよならは 苦くて アイシテルは 遠いにおいがした 例えようのない この想いは とても怖くて だけど とても愛おしくて “Goodbye” is so bitter, While “I love you” carries a far-off scent. This incomparable feeling Is so very frightening… bu...

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.14.2005 Knee update: I went to the doctor today for a checkup, and saw his assistant. I’ve been concerned because there’s still inflammation in my knee joint, and it’s been almost 4 months since the surgery. She said she’d talk to the doctor about it tomorrow and call me. Sometimes he suggests laying off the PT to see if that causes the inflammation to go away, but I don’t know if that will work because lately I’ve been pretty active outside of PT. At PT today, the therapist did ultrasound and some sort of electrical current on the joint. Hopefully that will make the inflammation start to go down. I’ll know by tomorrow, probably. Writing: Mt. Hermon conference starts this Friday! On Thursday night, I’ll be at the Santana Row Borders bookstore to help out (and hopefully learn a bit, too) at a booksigning for several of the ACFW authors who are attending Mt. Hermon . That should be lots of fun. I had a good brainstorming time at ...

Grace Livingston Hill romances free to read online

I wanted to update my old post on Grace Livingston Hill romances because now there are tons more options for you to be able to read her books for free online! I’m a huge Grace Livingston Hill fan. Granted, not all her books resonate with me, but there are a few that I absolutely love, like The Enchanted Barn and Crimson Roses . And the best part is that she wrote over 100 books and I haven’t yet read them all! When I have time, I like to dive into a new GLH novel. I like the fact that most of them are romances, and I especially appreciate that they all have strong Christian themes. Occasionally the Christian content is a little heavy-handed for my taste, but it’s so interesting to see what the Christian faith was like in the early part of the 20th century. These books are often Cinderella-type stories or A Little Princess (Frances Hodgson Burnett) type stories, which I love. And the best part is that they’re all set in the early 1900s, so the time period is absolutely fasci...

Simplification 2013

It seems like every year I realize I’ve filled my time with things that take up too much of my time! As I’ve been praying over 2013 during the month of January, I’ve been feeling I need to (once again) simplify my life. So I’m stepping back from a blog I contribute to. I’m also aiming for less participation in some of my Goodreads groups (that is truly a time suck! Fun, but time suck.) My book writing schedule is still very busy, so I’ll be doing no more critiques with my Story Sensei business in the first half of the year so that I can focus on my books, on writing what God wants me to write. I’m going to focus my energy on my own blog --I’m aiming to post 3-4 times a week, as well as posting contests more regularly. I’m also going to be more active on my Goodreads group and my Facebook page , posting contests there as well. And I absolutely DEPEND on those three outlets for help when naming characters, since many of you know how pathetic challenged I am in coming up wit...

My first hand-spun yarn!

Captain's Log, Stardate 01.22.2010 Since late December, I have been learning how to spin wool into yarn using a drop spindle. Yes! It’s true, I have gone totally Amish/old school. (No offense to any Amish or old school people. I mean that in the nicest way.) I don’t know why I suddenly decided to learn to spin. Or if I did know why, I’ve forgotten (I probably explained it to Captain Caffeine at some point, but now I don’t remember what excuse I gave to him). Not having any yarn shops nearby that teach spinning, I bought a Cascade spindle online and some really soft, silky merino wool roving from Etsy.com. I read all kinds of online articles and watched youtube videos. And I spun my first yarn! Here it is! It’s a lace weight yarn (about 30 wraps per inch), since I like using finer gauge yarns over bulkier yarns. It’s rather uneven (although it’s not as easy to tell in the picture) and I didn’t ply it very well, but I made it all by myself! Captain Caffeine does not...
