Sunday Prayer

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.26.2006

Leave any prayer requests in the comments and I’ll be praying this week. You don’t have to be Christian to leave a prayer request. If you’d rather not advertise to everyone on the blogosphere, just leave an unspoken prayer request or email me. Not to be mean or anything, but if you don't email me or comment to update your prayer request, I'm only going to pray 3 Sundays.

Lord God, you are our strength and shield.

Please comfort those who are grieving with your mantle.


Continue to be with Christina as she prepares to come home from her missions trip.

Thank you that Heather wasn’t hurt by her accident. Please help her to heal.

Please help Pammer as she strives this last lap to finish her revisions. Please help her to trust you and believe in herself.

I pray for complete healing for Squirl. Please give her and her doctors wisdom and skill for her surgery. I pray you will heal her soon.

Continue to help Dineen prioritize her life. Help her to be efficient with her writing time so that she can get even more done.

I pray for justice for Robin’s family. Lord, work in the hearts of everyone involved. Defend Robin’s family. Lead and guide Robin’s writing career in the direction you want her to go.

Help Ronie’s move to go smoothly and quickly.

Give Ron wisdom and time management.

I pray for healing for Mir’s health issues. Please ease her pain, Lord. Give her energy for all she has to do. Help her as she writes for you. (Hey Mirster, how are you doing on your manuscript, anyway?)

Please give Sharon inspiration and energy as she starts on her fourth contracted manuscript. Help her to get a lot done even before she heads to Mt. Hermon, and give her a smooth and safe journey. I pray for your favor on her first book out in a few months.

Help Lori’s surgery recovery go smoothly and quickly.

Thank you that Gina just finished her manuscript! Lead and guide her on where to send it, and give her inspiration on her next project.

Thank you that some of Paula’s family’s clients paid their invoices. Lord, please convict their largest client to pay their invoice soon. Please give Paula emotional strength this week, lead and guide her footsteps along a sure path in her writing journey, and help her to prioritize and find quality time with her kids.

I lift up Megan to you, and ask you to keep your hand over her. Help her to carve out writing time, and to trust you to be leading and guiding her.

Please heal Malia’s knee and back with your mighty healing power. Please help the insurance somehow work out well.

Anoint Donna with your power and energy as she finishes her manuscript.

Help Mok at her new job, give her skill and wisdom. Please also help her as she prepares for her exam on April 9th, and help her to pass it.

Give Audra strength and energy with her new baby, and wisdom to raise her daughter to be a child of God.

Cover RagamuffinDiva with your power and grace.

Continue to heal Angie and give her energy and skill for this busy tax season. I pray for healing for Pattie.

Give Lynette wisdom and guidance in her current project.

Please help Tiff’s mom continue to heal quickly and smoothly, without pain or complications.

Please help Tina, Mary C., Julie, Pam, and Ruthy (SAYSFers, did I miss anyone?)hear back quickly about their manuscripts.

Thank you so much for Missie and Janet’s GH finals!

Please help Myra’s house be sold quickly and smoothly. Help Tina move smoothly.

Continue to keep your hand over Mariah.

Continue to fire up Dream’s creativity and help her with the projects you’ve given her to do.

Please give Linda peace amidst all the losses and family illnesses causing stress. I pray for healing for her grandson's heart and wisdom for the doctors. Please also comfort her daughter and the rest of the family as only you can.

Please help Eileen with her mother. Give her energy and wisdom.

Lord, only you can solve Sigrun’s complicated family problems. Please help her to hear you, what you want her to do or not do. Please help her to rest in you, that you are taking care of her and the situation.

I pray Rose’s daughter’s biopsy went well, and I pray it wasn’t cancerous. Grant peace and blessings to the family.

Please continue to help Zola in chemotherapy.

Give grace and peace to my friends married to non-believers.

Continue to strengthen your persecuted church, and let your people bring you glory.

Thank you for helping me adjust my chair. Pleae continue to help my knee heal quickly and smoothly. Give me discipline for writing, eating and exercise.

You are God and you are good all the time.

And hey if you get any more cravings for Wasabi funyums let me know, I'll be happy to send them. BTW what did you think of them anyway? I think I forgot to ask. :)

Thank you, dear one. Still praying for your knee and misc writing stuff ("God you know what the woman needs with her writing and what you have planned for her, so you just do your thing.")

Pattie is much better, even coming in a couple of hours each day. As the season wears on, I'm coming undone like a cheap wicker sofa. Since I have a follow-up doctor's appt tomorrow, I might hit the woman up for Xanax.

Yes, I'm kidding.

Zondervan has offered me a three-book contract on my Asian chick-lit series ! I’m still stunned by everything that’s happened. Brainstorm - character occupation

Captain's Log, Stardate 03.23.2009 Hey guys, I could use some help. In my current manuscript, The Year of the Dog , which is a humorous contemporary romance, I have a minor character, Eddie. He’s my heroine’s ex-boyfriend, and they’re on good terms with each other. He’s a bit irresponsible, but not so much so that he’s a complete loser. He’s got a very easy going attitude, he forgets to pay his bills sometimes, he’s friendly and charming. He’s adventurous and fun to be around, but he’s a little forgetful sometimes, and he tends to spend a little outside his income. I need an occupation for him. What would a charming, easy going, slightly irresponsible guy do for a living? He’s not too irresponsible, because otherwise readers will wonder what in the world my heroine saw in him to date him in the first place. She was attracted to his charm, his easy going attitude (her family’s uptight, and he was a nice contrast), and his adventurousness. But his forgetfulness and irresponsibility ...

Window shopping

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.14.2005 Knee update: I went to the doctor today for a checkup, and saw his assistant. I’ve been concerned because there’s still inflammation in my knee joint, and it’s been almost 4 months since the surgery. She said she’d talk to the doctor about it tomorrow and call me. Sometimes he suggests laying off the PT to see if that causes the inflammation to go away, but I don’t know if that will work because lately I’ve been pretty active outside of PT. At PT today, the therapist did ultrasound and some sort of electrical current on the joint. Hopefully that will make the inflammation start to go down. I’ll know by tomorrow, probably. Writing: Mt. Hermon conference starts this Friday! On Thursday night, I’ll be at the Santana Row Borders bookstore to help out (and hopefully learn a bit, too) at a booksigning for several of the ACFW authors who are attending Mt. Hermon . You can still enter both giveaways. Just post a comment on each of those blog posts. On Thursday, I'll draw the winner for THE PREACHER’S DAUGHTER and post the title for another book I'm giving away. Stay tuned. I’m done. At the beginning of the year, I made a goal of three books this year. That’s four months per book. I started this manuscript January 15th. I finished in the wee hours of May 17th, so it took me about four months, a day and a few hours. Yay me. I’m going to bed now. Yes, this is the espresso maker on the right, and a professional coffee grinder on the left. By the espresso maker, I mean the one I promised to my long-suffering husband if I got a book contract, as a reward for letting me quit my biotech job and write full-time.

Captain’s Log, Supplemental My agent sent me an article from Publisher’s Weekly that discussed this incident: Chinese Take-Out Spawns Christian Controversy And here’s also a blog post that talks about it in more detail: The Fighting 44s This is Soong-Chan Rah’s blog: The PCS blog In sum: Apparently Zondervan (yes, my publisher), who has partnered with Youth Specialties, had put out a youth leaders skit that had stereotypical Asian dialogue, which offended many Christian Asian Americans. In response to the outcry, Zondervan/Youth Specialities put out a sincere apology and is not only freezing the remaining stock of the book, but also reprinting it and replacing the copies people have already bought. I am very proud of my publisher for how they have handled this situation. The skit writers have also issued a public apology . (I feel sorry for them, because they were only trying to write a funny skit, not stir up this maelstrom of internet controversy. I’ve been in youth work long enou...
