Sunday Prayer

Captain’s Log, Stardate 02.05.2006

Leave any prayer requests in the comments and I’ll be praying this week. You don’t have to be Christian to leave a prayer request. If you’d rather not advertise to everyone on the blogosphere, just leave an unspoken prayer request or email me.

If you don’t see yourself and you want to, email me or leave a comment. Not to be mean or anything, but if you don't email me or comment to update your prayer request, I'm only going to pray 3 Sundays.

Lord, in your wisdom, give us light. You are God of all the earth.

Lord, please give Heather wisdom about whether she should get a new computer. I pray everything works out for her. Thank you for healing her from her cold.

Please be with Pammer and help her to overcome her fear and doubts. Give her strength so that she will no longer be paralyzed by them. Please help her to finish her rewrites by the end of February. Be with Jules, also, and heal her.

Please heal Squirl. Give the doctors wisdom to know how to treat her, and I pray the surgery can be scheduled quickly.

Lord, I pray the SW series will be picked up, although we bow to your will.

Please be with Dineen in her writing. Help her to write efficiently and quickly, let the words just fly out of her. Give her everything she needs for her manuscript.

Cover Robin with your peace, Lord, and help her to continue to write for you.

Bless Ronie’s writing and help her as she juggles homeschooling, classes and writing.

Help Ron as he works on his manuscript, give him everything he needs.

Father, bless Marilyn as she goes to the CLASS workshop tomorrow. I pray for safe and smooth travel. Thank you for showing her what you desire for her writing.

Father, please ease Mir’s pain and discomfort from her teeth and gums. Give her energy this week, too. I lift up her nephew Kiko and pray his heart problems aren’t serious.

Help Sharon in her writing—give her wisdom, grace, affirmation, strength.

Give Charise direction and guidance in her job search.

Please continue to help Amber to heal.

Be with Gina and help her to know your will for her. Help her as she waits for responses, and direct her to the agent you want for her.

Continue to be with Crystal and give her affirmation in her writing.

Please help MaryG’s daughter’s eye heal quickly.

Help Paula to continue to lean on you. Give her wisdom to prioritize and a heart able to relinquish it all to you.

I pray you are continuing to guide Megan in all her decisions, and leading her where you want her to go.

Please heal Lori’s knee quickly and smoothly. Give wisdom and skill to her doctors.

Lord, please heal Darlene’s rash quickly. Please ease her discomfort while she has it.

Keep your hand over Donna’s heart as she writes.

Please continue to help Gail heal quickly, and be with Brenda through her chemo treatments.

Help Heather G. to find peace, hope and love in you alone.

I pray you will heal Malia’s knee without the need for surgery. Please work everything out with her insurance, too.

Please be with Darlene’s friend Val and her daughter. Help them to know what to do so that her daughter can find wholeness in you. Cover them both.

Be with Mok in her work, her writing, and her career direction. Be with her as she waits for the March 1st crossover date.

Help Angie during this tax season and continue to help her be smoke-free. I pray for your powerful healing for Pattie, both in body and in spirit. Encourage her as only you can, Lord.

Lead and guide LaShaunda as she starts to send her stuff out.

Father, thank you so much for Christina and all you are doing in her and through her in Japan. Please empower her to reach out to others for your glory. Be with her and give her confidence at her open class in March.

Continue to keep Audra in good health, and I pray for a smooth delivery.

Continue to bless Margo’s Bible study and speak to each of the women about who they are in you.

Prepare Lynette for Mt. Hermon and give her wisdom and energy for her new projects.

Please continue to help Tiff in her new job, and be leading her as she writes.

Father, thank you for Tina’s request from that publishing house. Please help her as she prepares her house for sale, and anoint her manuscript as she adds words and revises.

Father, I lift up Missy to you and ask you to hold her close. Lead her and guide her in what she needs to do. Give her strength for what you ask of her, and assurance of your presence with her. Please provide for her family and her writing.

Father, please heal Dream from this icky cold and help her in all the things she needs to do with work and writing and family. Give her strength and energy and assurance that you got her back.

Our holy and loving Father, I lift up Mariah to you. Thank you for bringing her to Ruthy's church. She is in so much pain, Lord. Please touch her and hold her and heal her. God, help her to realize that she can fall completely in your arms and find forgiveness, strength, peace, and a brand new start. Lord God, please keep your hand over her and bring her out of the bad situations she's in. Rescue this beautiful daughter, Lord. Thank you for loving her so much.

Lord, I lift up my friends married to non-believers. We pray for their salvation, and I ask for hope for them this week.

Lord, bless your persecuted church, give them power and strength.

Please continue to help me heal from surgery, Lord. Please also help me to be more disciplined in all aspects of my life.

Holy God, we are your people and we praise you. Amen.

Brainstorm - character occupation

Captain's Log, Stardate 03.23.2009 Hey guys, I could use some help. In my current manuscript, The Year of the Dog , which is a humorous contemporary romance, I have a minor character, Eddie. He’s my heroine’s ex-boyfriend, and they’re on good terms with each other. He’s a bit irresponsible, but not so much so that he’s a complete loser. He’s got a very easy going attitude, he forgets to pay his bills sometimes, he’s friendly and charming. He’s adventurous and fun to be around, but he’s a little forgetful sometimes, and he tends to spend a little outside his income. I need an occupation for him. What would a charming, easy going, slightly irresponsible guy do for a living? He’s not too irresponsible, because otherwise readers will wonder what in the world my heroine saw in him to date him in the first place. She was attracted to his charm, his easy going attitude (her family’s uptight, and he was a nice contrast), and his adventurousness. But his forgetfulness and irresponsibility ...

Captain’s Log, Stardate 03.14.2005 Knee update: I went to the doctor today for a checkup, and saw his assistant. I’ve been concerned because there’s still inflammation in my knee joint, and it’s been almost 4 months since the surgery. She said she’d talk to the doctor about it tomorrow and call me. Sometimes he suggests laying off the PT to see if that causes the inflammation to go away, but I don’t know if that will work because lately I’ve been pretty active outside of PT. At PT today, the therapist did ultrasound and some sort of electrical current on the joint. Hopefully that will make the inflammation start to go down. I’ll know by tomorrow, probably. Writing: Mt. Hermon conference starts this Friday! On Thursday night, I’ll be at the Santana Row Borders bookstore to help out (and hopefully learn a bit, too) at a booksigning for several of the ACFW authors who are attending Mt. Hermon . That should be lots of fun. I had a good brainstorming time at ...

Japanese language learning process in more detail

I blogged a few weeks ago that I’ve jumped back into my Japanese language learning after being lazy and letting it slide. I’ve been keeping my Japanese language study habit for about a month now, and I wanted to blog about my process in more detail. One thing I had noticed about my Japanese is that I tended not to do it if I left it to do at the end of the day. I realized that it was just like my exercise—if I didn’t do it first thing in the morning, it never got done. So I started doing my Japanese right after my exercise in the morning. I treated it like one of my “frogs,” as I read about in the book Eat That Frog!: 21 Great Ways to Stop Procrastinating and Get More Done in Less Time . The book is based off of a Mark Twain quote: “Eat a live frog first thing in the morning and nothing worse will happen to you the rest of the day.” It suggests doing your “frogs”—your important things that you’re likely to procrastinate doing—first thing in the morning in order to get it done, and ...

Chinese Take-Out and Sushi for One

Captain’s Log, Supplemental My agent sent me an article from Publisher’s Weekly that discussed this incident: Chinese Take-Out Spawns Christian Controversy And here’s also a blog post that talks about it in more detail: The Fighting 44s This is Soong-Chan Rah’s blog: The PCS blog In sum: Apparently Zondervan (yes, my publisher), who has partnered with Youth Specialties, had put out a youth leaders skit that had stereotypical Asian dialogue, which offended many Christian Asian Americans. In response to the outcry, Zondervan/Youth Specialities put out a sincere apology and is not only freezing the remaining stock of the book, but also reprinting it and replacing the copies people have already bought. I am very proud of my publisher for how they have handled this situation. The skit writers have also issued a public apology . (I feel sorry for them, because they were only trying to write a funny skit, not stir up this maelstrom of internet controversy. I’ve been in youth work long enou...

New book idea a la Captain Caffeine

Captain's Log, Stardate 04.14.2009 So my husband, Captain Caffeine, had lunch with a few friends a few days ago. And they asked about my writing, and if I’d been on Oprah yet. (Yeah, right) They then discussed NYT bestselling books, and why can’t Camy write a NYT bestseller. (Sure, let me just open a vein over a blank page and it’ll come right out.) So Captain Caffeine came home with ideas for my new NYT bestselling novel. First it starts with vampires, because Twilight is so hot. But not just any vampires. This one’s an Amish vampire. And he’s not just an Amish vampire, he’s a cop in disguise, infiltrating the Amish community to protect a witness. (Hmm, that storyline sounds familiar ...) But wait! There’s more! To add more conflict and stick with my brand of Asian fiction, we introduce the Tibetan monk! Who joins the Amish community to get away from the pressures of monkhood. But in reality, he’s protecting the Chinese princess on the run, trying to escape from her father’s Hong...
