Lady Wynwood #7 early release Kickstarter

I worked on my first Kickstarter and it got approved! It’s for the Special Edition Hardcover of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 1: Archer and the release of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 7: Spinster. I contacted my graphic designer about the Special Edition Hardcover of vol. 1: Archer—it’s going to be SO beautiful! The Kickstarter focuses on the Special Edition Hardcover, but it’ll also include vol. 7: Spinster so that it’ll sort of be like a launch day for vol. 7, too. A third special thing that’ll be in the Kickstarter is Special Edition Paperbacks of all the books in the series. They won’t be available in stores, just in the Kickstarter (and later, from my website, and also in my Patreon book box tiers if I decide to do them). The Kickstarter is not live yet, but you can follow it to be alerted when it has launched. (You may need to create a free Kickstarter account.) Follow Camy’s Kickstarter

Autumn Teas Gift Sampler @AdagioTeas #adagio #tea

I was very fortunate when Adagio Teas offered to send me a few samplers to try and blog about. The weather just turned cold when I got this Autumn Teas sampler! The box got a little crushed in the mail, though.

Here’s the description on the website:

Is there anything better than crisp air, big sweaters, and pumpkin spice everything? For lovers of all things Fall, we've put together a collection of teas to capture the essence of the season. This set includes:

autumn mist green - Gently smoky gunpowder combined with bright tangy apples and rose hips, bring to mind a misty morning stroll.
Blended With Gunpowder Tea, Apple Pieces, Cinnamon, Rose Hips, Natural Creme Brulee Flavor, Marigold Flowers & Rose Petals

bonfire - An Autumn medley of hazelnut, cocoa and exotic spices, with a soft note of apples and a hint of blazing hearth.
Blended With Honeybush Tea, Apple Pieces, Lapsang Souchong Tea, Aniseed, Cocoa Nibs, Cinnamon, Rose Hips, Cloves, Orange, Red Peppercorn, Safflower, Natural Cinnamon Flavor, Natural Hazelnut Flavor & Natural Orange Flavor

pumpkin spice - Pumpkin Spice goodness with rich, lively spices for a perfect autumn treat.
Blended With Black Tea, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cloves, Natural Pumpkin Spice Flavor, Cardamom & Marigold Flowers

honeybush pumpkin chai - Masala Chai spices in an herbal honeybush pumpkin base. Beautiful clear and bright cup, and crisp, tangy-sweet flavor.
Blended With Honeybush Tea, Cinnamon, Ginger, Cardamom, Cocoa Nibs, Safflower & Natural Pumpkin Spice Flavor

Camy: This was a very diverse sampler and would make a great gift! (The only exception would be if the recipient prefers unflavored green or black teas. In that case, they’d be more likely to enjoy a gift sampler like Teas of Japan or Oolong Teas of China.)

I’m going to review the teas in the order I tried them.

Pumpkin Spice

This delicious tea was full of spices and flavor! I admit I used a little more than a teaspoon for a 1-cup pot. I brewed it for 3 minutes at 212ºF.

I tried it plain, but I liked it much better with milk, which mellows the acidity and makes it have a softer mouthfeel, and a little sugar. It tasted a lot like a Pumpkin Spice Crème from Starb*cks, but I liked that I could make it less sweet.

Honey Bush Pumpkin Chai

I used a little more than a teaspoon for a 1-cup pot and brewed this for 10 min at 212ºF.

I could drink this unsweetened, but I preferred the flavor with sugar and milk. It was very similar to the pumpkin spice tea, but it had stronger cardamom and ginger flavors. The honey bush gave it a faint grassiness. I have to confess honey bush isn’t a favorite tea, but it’s not very prominent in this blend because of the other spices. Overall, this was a great noncaffeinated chai tea.

Bonfire

I used a little more than a teaspoon for a 1-cup pot and brewed this for 5 min at 212ºF.

I couldn’t drink this without sugar and milk. I just didn’t like the unsweetened flavor at all.

This tea wasn’t terrible, but I tasted mostly the hazelnut and orange flavors, and combined with the faint hint of anise, I thought that was a little odd. Not unpleasant, but unique.

There’s also a subtle smokey aroma that lingers, which is probably from the Lapsang Souchong Tea.

Overall, a very interesting tea, but not really to my taste.

Autumn Mist Green

This was my absolute favorite tea from the sampler box. There was a wonderful apple smell right when I opened the bag.

I used a little more than a teaspoon for a 1-cup pot and brewed this for 3 min at 180ºF. As it steeped, I could smell the green tea more.

When drunk plain, it had a very smooth flavor with a little tartness. However, I preferred it with sugar and milk, which brought out the harmony between the creme brulee and apple. There’s just the right amount of astringency from the green tea to make the flavor bright. I really loved this tea!

Have you tried any great autumn teas? Be sure to comment to let me know!

Grace Livingston Hill romances free on Google Books

I wanted to update my old post on Grace Livingston Hill romances because now there are tons more options for you to be able to read her books for free online! I’m a huge Grace Livingston Hill fan. Granted, not all her books resonate with me, but there are a few that I absolutely love, like The Enchanted Barn and Crimson Roses . And the best part is that she wrote over 100 books and I haven’t yet read them all! When I have time, I like to dive into a new GLH novel. I like the fact that most of them are romances, and I especially appreciate that they all have strong Christian themes. Occasionally the Christian content is a little heavy-handed for my taste, but it’s so interesting to see what the Christian faith was like in the early part of the 20th century. These books are often Cinderella-type stories or A Little Princess (Frances Hodgson Burnett) type stories, which I love. And the best part is that they’re all set in the early 1900s, so the time period is absolutely fasci

No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter st until liner measures

What are you reading?

What I’m reading: If the Villainess and Villain Met and Fell in Love (Light Novel), Vol. 1 by Harunadon SOMETIMES FIRE AND ICE ARE PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. Brigitte Meidell belongs to a noble family, which means high expectations were placed upon her spirit contract. However, her bonded spirit turned out to be a weak no-name, and ever since, she has been a source of shame to her family. She thought her engagement to the prince would turn her life around, but when he publicly breaks off their relationship, she finds herself alone again. After her haughty, villainous behavior as the prince’s bride-to-be, no one shows her much sympathy―except for the duke’s son Yuri, who attends the same magic academy. Yuri is feared for his incredible abilities and icy personality, but with him on her side, her fortunes might have changed... I read this book last month but forgot to post about it. I absolutely love this series! The heroine has such a deep backstory and a plausible reason for her previ

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern. Happy Boys' Day!

I realize for most of the world it’s Cinco de Mayo, but in my house it’s Boys’ Day! Fly carp flags and eat mochi!

What are you making today?

Look! Look! This is the blank journal that I’ll be offering in my upcoming Kickstarter ! It’s a fabric and knitted lace journal cover slipped onto a Levengers Stanley Journal refill. I had a lady at my church make the fabric cover. I knit the lace panel and sewed it on the fabric so you can see the color underneath. The lace pattern is the same as the lace shawl worn by my character Lena in my upcoming book, Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 7: Spinster . It’s based on an antique pattern that isn’t quite from the Regency era—maybe 10 or 15 years later—but I felt it was close enough, plus it’s so pretty! I loved knitting this!
