Sushi for One marketing idea

You’re probably going to laugh at me…

So many of you know—and if you don’t know, then go read the blurb about it—that Sushi for One? is about Lex Sakai, who’s a volleyball player.

Well, my husband and I played volleyball for years. In fact, I’d still be playing if I hadn’t torn my ACL twice. (Yeah, I learned my lesson, finally.)

Captain Caffeine is still playing co-ed volleyball in the Nikkei Volleyball League (Lex’s league in the book!) and needed a new ball. Well, guess what he suggested we do?





Now is this marketing or what?! My Marketing Director will be proud.

Any ideas you guys can think of that I should do to market this book without being a used car salesman about it?

I love the volleyball!

And I think you should market your book in any way you can or any way you want to. I don't think you'll be coming across as a used car salesman because you're not pushing, your marketing, just letting the folks know that it's out there on the shelves. (Well, gonna be out there.)

Very cute! I agree with Delia...market it however and wherever you want to. You could use other people's blogs...that is big now...even readers are advertising/marketing for authors now on their blogs (myself included). I don't think it comes across as a used car salesman at all...it is marketing.

Too cool! Hey, how about making up t-shirts with some catchy phrase on it to make people ask you about it and then give them one of the bookmarks or something like that...or...what about setting up a table somewhere like in a mall or something and have some sushi samples with your bookmarks, chop sticks, post cards, posters or whatever you have all around you as advertisements, and maybe have a drawing for an autographed book or something?

I can just see my hubby when I'm published. He'll probably go out and buy cowboy hats or something and hand them out with my books. LOL! Now that's an idea for me. Where's my pen and paper?

My fledging marketing mind is spinning now since my series is about baseball players. I'd love to hear more about how you're marketing or how much you're marketing to women who love sports. We're a fast-growing market, for sure.

Foret the tee shirt. Give away one of those GORGEEEEOUS Asian outfits, like you wear--like the red, the black, or the blue ones I've seen pics of you in.

I think it says 1. Female 2. Asian and 3. Stylish flair, which are elements of Asian Chick Lit, no?

Of course, you'd have to find a place that makes it in a wide selection of sizes, so your FAT readers, like moi, could win, too. :D

Or a delivery of a meal of sushi enough for ONE.

Chinese Take-Out and Sushi for One

Captain’s Log, Supplemental My agent sent me an article from Publisher’s Weekly that discussed this incident: Chinese Take-Out Spawns Christian Controversy And here’s also a blog post that talks about it in more detail: The Fighting 44s This is Soong-Chan Rah’s blog: The PCS blog In sum: Apparently Zondervan (yes, my publisher), who has partnered with Youth Specialties, had put out a youth leaders skit that had stereotypical Asian dialogue, which offended many Christian Asian Americans. In response to the outcry, Zondervan/Youth Specialities put out a sincere apology and is not only freezing the remaining stock of the book, but also reprinting it and replacing the copies people have already bought. I am very proud of my publisher for how they have handled this situation. The skit writers have also issued a public apology .
