My book is The Spinster’s Christmas, a Christian historical romantic suspense. I’m also pretty excited because it recently got a brand new cover!

I absolutely love Regency romances, and it was a joy to write The Spinster’s Christmas. I was able to do tons of research into English Christmas traditions from the Regency period, 1811-1820. This Christmas since I have lots of time on my hands, I’m going to try that daunting Christmas Plum Pudding!

Jane Austen once wrote that with her book, Emma, she was writing a heroine no one else would like except for herself. I kind of feel that way about my heroine, Miranda. She’s just like me—she doesn’t fit the mold, she’s slightly spacey, and she has her own unusual way of doing things. (My husband says that’s another way of saying she and I are both weird!)

But Miranda is one of my favorite heroines, if authors are allowed to choose favorites (it’s kind of like choosing your favorite child). She’s able to laugh in the face of embarrassment, she sees life with a fresh outlook, and while her circumstances have gotten her down, she’s not afraid to stand up and face it.

She’s in a pretty bad situation when the story starts. Her parents have died and she’s now living as a poor dependent with her priggish cousin, serving as an unpaid nurserymaid. However, she finds great joy in taking care of her young charge, Ellie.

Then her cousin’s wife wants to send her to one of her own relations as an unpaid servant, except that the master of the house has a bad reputation for abusing the maids. (Unfortunately, this was a common occurrence in Regency England.)

However, Miranda won’t take this sitting down, and she’s using the family gathering over Christmas to talk to the house guests and find another job to save her from her life of drudgery.

Her plans are complicated when a mysterious intruder attacks her childhood friend, Gerard, an injured naval captain struggling with the loss of his livelihood. And suddenly a merry Christmas house party has become deadly serious.
