Lady Wynwood #7 early release Kickstarter

I worked on my first Kickstarter and it got approved! It’s for the Special Edition Hardcover of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 1: Archer and the release of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 7: Spinster. I contacted my graphic designer about the Special Edition Hardcover of vol. 1: Archer—it’s going to be SO beautiful! The Kickstarter focuses on the Special Edition Hardcover, but it’ll also include vol. 7: Spinster so that it’ll sort of be like a launch day for vol. 7, too. A third special thing that’ll be in the Kickstarter is Special Edition Paperbacks of all the books in the series. They won’t be available in stores, just in the Kickstarter (and later, from my website, and also in my Patreon book box tiers if I decide to do them). The Kickstarter is not live yet, but you can follow it to be alerted when it has launched. (You may need to create a free Kickstarter account.) Follow Camy’s Kickstarter

Tagged at Random

Captain's Log, Stardate 01.28.2009

Ane Mulligan tagged me, so here goes:

Rules: Once you've been tagged, write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you.

At the end, choose 10 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it's because I want to know more about you.

1. I am currently exercising 6 days a week! Yay!

2. I’m walking/jogging to try to build up so that I can eventually run for 30 minutes straight.

3. I am currently wearing pink fingerless gloves I knit myself.

4. I am also currently wearing a spiral scarf I knit myself.

5. I’ll be teaching a mentoring group at the HeadStart program at Mount Hermon Writers Conference this spring.

6. Actually, I just realized I’m also wearing socks I knit myself.

7. I am really an introvert because large groups of people drain my energy, they don’t give me energy, but being an introvert doesn’t mean I can’t be friendly and outgoing—it just means that once I hit a certain point, I need to be alone to recharge.

8. I’m currently working on a proposal for a new romantic suspense. It’s hard trying to think up ways for the villain to try to kill the heroine. Where she escapes.

9. I’m almost done with the really really really late Christmas present for my parents, but I think they’ll like it. (And no, Mom, I will not tell you what it is.)

10. I drank 10 glasses of water yesterday.

11. I found one of my knitting row counters (finally!) but still haven’t found the other one. Grrrrr

12. I am avoiding making my yearly check up with my doctor because I’m afraid she’ll suggest a mammogram, since I’m getting into that age.

13. I belong to the Amazon vine program where I get free books (usually ARCs) and I have to post a review on them. I’ve read some really good books for them lately.

14. I’m also trying to read some historical romance novels I borrowed from my friend Danica, because I want to get them back to her ASAP. Between these and my Amazon vine books, I haven’t done as much reading for my writing as I’d like to.

15. Captain Caffeine suggested I write a book set in Hong Kong. I said I’d need to visit there to do that. I’d be willing to sacrifice.

16. I’m really getting into watching CSI: NY lately. The story premises have been really interesting.

17. Another favorite TV show is Leverage on TNT. Really clever plots. It’s like Ocean’s 11, which I loved.

18. I still haven’t mailed my thank you cards for Christmas gifts. (I’ll get to it this week, Mom!)

19. My favorite knitting store is KnitPicks.com. I love their Harmony wood needles and I love how they offer luxury yarns at very affordable prices.

20. I currently have some bulky weight mohair blend yarn and I’m not sure what to do with it. Any ideas?

21. I have been eating with chopsticks lately because it forces me to eat slower. And it feels kind of neat to eat with chopsticks again, which I used to do more when I was in school and living at home.

22. Lately I’ve been really happy that my sinus headaches are almost entirely gone, thanks to eating a tablespoon of local unfiltered honey every day and using a saline nasal rinse.

23. I love giving away Christian fiction on my blog and in my newsletter YahooGroup. I like promoting Christian fiction.

24. I think I’m going to introduce “You Are the Light” by Fee for our youth group worship.

25. Considering how much I like to talk about myself, it was really hard coming up with 25 things about me.

#12.!!! I don't know why I was so afraid to do this. Yes I do, everyone made it seem soooo scary. I had myself so worked up about it that the actual process was almost a let down. Almost. But of course, I've given birth. Nothing about your body is sacred after that.

One day I'm going to be just like you, Camy. I love it that you knit. Makes me feel normal. Do you have any ACFW patterns, btw?

Thanks for sharing.

Camy, I'm so happy to find your website!! AWESOME. I want to enter to win your give-away. I love to read... and read... and read. I would love to be able to write, but it's not my gift. Thanks!!

Angie, since I haven't given birth to anything except a few books, I still feel rather squeamish about my body. :)

Thanks, Linda! No, no ACFW patterns...yet. ;)

How great to see you here, Ladette! (For those of you who want to lose weight, join me and Ladette on SparkPeople.com!)

These are great. Thanks for playing along. I had a hard time writing my list.

#'s 1 & 2 don't sound like fun at all. But I'm so impressed with your knitting skills! Good luck with the attempt on your heroine's life :-)

You weren't kidding you have a lot of knitting stuff on your list. That's okay, you're totally into it, so of course you would write about it. Your FB status updates and #1 sound like you are exercising more and more. I'm surprised you don't have any mention of food on here. #12-I had my first one when I hit 40-not actually that bad. When you are challenged in that area, there isn't as much to squeeze, push, and pinch. You should be fine too. hee hee. oh-regarding #21, I don't know why chopsticks would make eating any slower. Isn't it actually FASTER to shovel food into your mouth?

Camy: I enjoyed reading your list and learn that you knit--something I don't do well at all. Also your slogan "romance with a kick of wasabi" is so great. Blessings,Janet

I had #12 done last fall. In a sense, it is the same as seeing a gyn. Exposing part of your body that you'd prefer to keep private but they see lots every day so it isn't as big of a deal to them. I wanted to go though b/c of the history in my family. (I was still a few years late. I'm 33 but with the family history my dr suggested age 30.)

Hope it all goes well, you'll feel better after you get it over with!!!

No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter st until liner measures

Toilet seat cover

Captain’s Log, Supplemental Update August 2008: I wrote up the pattern for this with "improvements"! Here's the link to my No Cold Bums toilet seat cover ! Okay, remember a few days ago I was complaining about the cold toilet seat in my bathroom? Well, I decided to knit a seat cover. Not a lid cover, but a seat cover. I went online and couldn’t find anything for the seat, just one pattern for the lid by Feminitz.com . However, I took her pattern for the inside edge of the lid cover and modified it to make a seat cover. Here it is! It’s really ugly stitch-wise because originally I made it too small and had to extend it a couple inches on each side. I figured I’d be the one staring at it, so who cared if the extension wasn’t perfectly invisible? I used acrylic yarn since, well, that’s what I had, and also because it’s easy to wash. I’ll probably have to wash this cover every week or so, but it’s easy to take off—I made ties which you can see near the back of the seat. And

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern. Camy’s top-down Tabi Socks I’m assuming you already know the basics of knitting socks. If you’re a beginner, here are some great tutorials: Socks 101 How to Knit Socks The Sock Knitter’s Companion A video of turning the heel Sock Knitting Tips Yarn: I have used both fingering weight and worsted weight yarn with this pattern. You just change the number of cast on stitches according to your gauge and the circumference of your ankle. Th

Mansfield Park on Masterpiece

Captain's Log, Supplemental Okay, I was going to hold this for next week but I can’t hold the frustration in any longer. I finally saw Mansfield Park on Masterpiece Classic and it’s horrid (to channel Jane Austen). The story moves WAY too fast. The different issues dealt with in the book speed by so fast, I wonder than anyone who hasn’t read Mansfield Park can even understand what’s going on. The characters themselves are completely changed. Fanny is lively and girlish instead of timid and demure. And I agree with Kaye and Ruth , what’s with the hair down on her shoulders? How could the hair and makeup department let her get away with looking like a hoyden? I also agree with Kaye about Fanny’s heaving bosoms throughout the movie—so out of character for a “poor relation” to have such low-cut gowns. I do have to say one thing—I really enjoyed the moment Edmund tells Fanny that Mary Crawford is the only woman he could want for a wife—Billie Piper’s look is so exactly what I’d expec

Keriah's Narrow Crescent Scarf

In my series Lady Wynwood’s Spies, my character Keriah is more emotional than her friend Phoebe, and so when writing about her in Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 6: Martyr , naturally I described her scarf as having more lively colors than the greens and blues that Phoebe favors. I didn’t really have a particular yarn colorway in mind when I wrote the scene, but when looking through my stash to knit her scarf, I found the Carnival colorway in Knit Picks Chroma Twist Fingering, and it was absolutely perfect for her. Chroma Twist Fingering is discontinued, but you could knit this in Chroma Fingering or any other color-transitional yarn. In the Regency era, a tri-color 3-ply yarn like Chroma Twist Fingering would probably not have been sold in shops, but it also may not have been completely unheard of. It is made by simply dying the wool rather than the finished yarn, and then the dyed wool would be split into 3 parts and each part spun into a single ply, before all three plies

Frogs

I know I blogged about this on my Writing Diary Blog , but I don’t think I blogged about this here. I read a few writing and productivity books, and I’ve been trying to form better daily habits. The problem is that my self-discipline is very bad. As in, embarrassingly bad. One of my goals has been to form a better writing habit. Since I’m a full-time writer, I already write every day, but I think there are things I can do to tweak my schedule so that I can be able to focus better when I write. I tend to get distracted by the thought of things I need to do that day which I haven’t done yet. I don’t know why my brain is like this, but I haven’t been able to break this tendency. So for example, while I’m writing, I’ll suddenly think about the fact that today’s the day when I need to change the bathroom towels, or mop the kitchen floor, or change the bedsheets. It’ll distract me for a few moments before I tell myself I’ll do it later and I need to focus on writing now. Then a few
