Lady Wynwood #7 early release Kickstarter

I worked on my first Kickstarter and it got approved! It’s for the Special Edition Hardcover of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 1: Archer and the release of Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 7: Spinster. I contacted my graphic designer about the Special Edition Hardcover of vol. 1: Archer—it’s going to be SO beautiful! The Kickstarter focuses on the Special Edition Hardcover, but it’ll also include vol. 7: Spinster so that it’ll sort of be like a launch day for vol. 7, too. A third special thing that’ll be in the Kickstarter is Special Edition Paperbacks of all the books in the series. They won’t be available in stores, just in the Kickstarter (and later, from my website, and also in my Patreon book box tiers if I decide to do them). The Kickstarter is not live yet, but you can follow it to be alerted when it has launched. (You may need to create a free Kickstarter account.) Follow Camy’s Kickstarter

Gone to Mt. Hermon

Captain’s Log, Stardate 04.05.2006

Blog book drawings:
My Monday book giveaway (ALONG CAME LOVE) is here.
You can still enter. Just post a comment on those blog posts.
On Wednesday, April 12th, I'll draw the winner for ALONG CAME LOVE, and on Thursday, April 13th, I'll post the title of another book I'm giving away. Stay tuned.

Mt. Hermon: Well, my friend Meredith Efken is staying with me tonight and tomorrow, and then we’re heading to Mt. Hermon Christian Writers Conference. Hence, tomorrow is a shopping day. At the very least, I have to pick up Trader Joe’s dark chocolate for the conference. Survival food, you know.

I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Meredith and I were talking about this today, how there’s something about being the company of writers that just invigorating. I might even get writing done this weekend, who knows?

If you think of it, say a pray for me: That I would listen and obey God’s voice in my ear, absorb His peace, trust Him to have His hand over my time at the conference. Praise God from whom all blessings truly flow!

Bible in 90 Days: Day 78. I haven’t read today yet, but I will right now. I’m in 1st Corinthians. I’m realizing the power and influence of God’s Spirit on His church. We tend to un-supernaturalize the Holy Spirit, I think, but the early church relied on His presence in each of us. I need to trust His voice speaking to me more.

Writing: Hm...Does brainstorming with Meredith count?

Diet: Did okay today despite Frankie, Johnnie, and Luigi’s Too for lunch and Krung Thai for dinner. Ate smaller portions, especially at Krung Thai, and we went for a short walk this afternoon, too.

I can imagine that being with writers can be very invigorating. I'm sure that that will help you in many ways. I'd definitely say that brainstorming is an important part of writing. It's great when you can talk to someone about your ideas and get feedback about what works and what might not from someone who's in the same business.

I always felt the Holy Spirit in any Christian conference I went to and I'm sure this will be an aspect of the ACFW conference too. I'll pray for you as well all the other writers, that His work will be done through what He gives you to write.

I can remember the days when reading, and writing, fiction was a no-no for Christians. It was all supposed to be the Bible only and any serious book on how to live the Christian life. I'm so glad that those legalistic ideas aren't taken that seriously anymore. After all, God did give us imagination and why not use it to His glory. Sometimes what I've read in fiction has really hit home and got me thinking about things I do or don't do.

I also think that Christian fiction can be a great outreach tool. But we have to pray for the people that *read* the books, too, so that the ground can be prepared to receive the seed. My mother was often very annoyed when at church there was prayer for the missionaries but never any for the people they were ministering to. Does not the Holy Spirit prepare the ground for the seed?

I experienced it recently with the other Christian writer I mentioned to you. When her book went to the publisher, she wrote a e-mail to her newsletter group asking us to pray that the book would be used for God's glory. Since the book was released, she has received letters that she has shared with us from people who were particularly blessed or convicted by what she had written. It's gone into it's 3rd printing. That has really stuck with me and it makes sense that we should pray for this.

May God bless all of you at this conference and through you and the outreach you'll have, bless others too.

P.S.

You won't believe how much trouble I had posting my comment. This is the first time that has ever happened to me. I don't know what's at fault but it kept being rejected even after I redid the verification a total of 5 times. Finally, was completely gone and said "Can't find server". Luckily, I had saved at least a part of the comment because I had turn off the pictures which--ahem--also turns of the "word verification". So I had to go through the process of saving the comment, turning on my "show pictures" and redoing the comment before I actually ran into the word verification problem. I wonder who was trying to get me from posting my comment? I know it's pretty long but I felt it was somehow important. Who knows?

I hope you even have time to read it.
You have a ball out there, girl. I'll bet it's a lot more fun once you have that contract under your belt. I'm, so happy for you! Bring back lots of good info and share it. :o)

I'm so happy you're getting to go to Mt. Hermon! I'll miss all the Christian writing conferences this year due to its being my last term of graduate school and having to pay tuition out of pocket!

Bring back lots of info to share. I'll be remembering you to the Father that He will illuminate your path and you'll be open to His leading.

Well, I would think that blogging counts as writing, doesn't it?

No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter st until liner measures

Toilet seat cover

Captain’s Log, Supplemental Update August 2008: I wrote up the pattern for this with "improvements"! Here's the link to my No Cold Bums toilet seat cover ! Okay, remember a few days ago I was complaining about the cold toilet seat in my bathroom? Well, I decided to knit a seat cover. Not a lid cover, but a seat cover. I went online and couldn’t find anything for the seat, just one pattern for the lid by Feminitz.com . However, I took her pattern for the inside edge of the lid cover and modified it to make a seat cover. Here it is! It’s really ugly stitch-wise because originally I made it too small and had to extend it a couple inches on each side. I figured I’d be the one staring at it, so who cared if the extension wasn’t perfectly invisible? I used acrylic yarn since, well, that’s what I had, and also because it’s easy to wash. I’ll probably have to wash this cover every week or so, but it’s easy to take off—I made ties which you can see near the back of the seat. And

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern. Camy’s top-down Tabi Socks I’m assuming you already know the basics of knitting socks. If you’re a beginner, here are some great tutorials: Socks 101 How to Knit Socks The Sock Knitter’s Companion A video of turning the heel Sock Knitting Tips Yarn: I have used both fingering weight and worsted weight yarn with this pattern. You just change the number of cast on stitches according to your gauge and the circumference of your ankle. Th

Mansfield Park on Masterpiece

Captain's Log, Supplemental Okay, I was going to hold this for next week but I can’t hold the frustration in any longer. I finally saw Mansfield Park on Masterpiece Classic and it’s horrid (to channel Jane Austen). The story moves WAY too fast. The different issues dealt with in the book speed by so fast, I wonder than anyone who hasn’t read Mansfield Park can even understand what’s going on. The characters themselves are completely changed. Fanny is lively and girlish instead of timid and demure. And I agree with Kaye and Ruth , what’s with the hair down on her shoulders? How could the hair and makeup department let her get away with looking like a hoyden? I also agree with Kaye about Fanny’s heaving bosoms throughout the movie—so out of character for a “poor relation” to have such low-cut gowns. I do have to say one thing—I really enjoyed the moment Edmund tells Fanny that Mary Crawford is the only woman he could want for a wife—Billie Piper’s look is so exactly what I’d expec

Keriah's Narrow Crescent Scarf

In my series Lady Wynwood’s Spies, my character Keriah is more emotional than her friend Phoebe, and so when writing about her in Lady Wynwood’s Spies, volume 6: Martyr , naturally I described her scarf as having more lively colors than the greens and blues that Phoebe favors. I didn’t really have a particular yarn colorway in mind when I wrote the scene, but when looking through my stash to knit her scarf, I found the Carnival colorway in Knit Picks Chroma Twist Fingering, and it was absolutely perfect for her. Chroma Twist Fingering is discontinued, but you could knit this in Chroma Fingering or any other color-transitional yarn. In the Regency era, a tri-color 3-ply yarn like Chroma Twist Fingering would probably not have been sold in shops, but it also may not have been completely unheard of. It is made by simply dying the wool rather than the finished yarn, and then the dyed wool would be split into 3 parts and each part spun into a single ply, before all three plies

Frogs

I know I blogged about this on my Writing Diary Blog , but I don’t think I blogged about this here. I read a few writing and productivity books, and I’ve been trying to form better daily habits. The problem is that my self-discipline is very bad. As in, embarrassingly bad. One of my goals has been to form a better writing habit. Since I’m a full-time writer, I already write every day, but I think there are things I can do to tweak my schedule so that I can be able to focus better when I write. I tend to get distracted by the thought of things I need to do that day which I haven’t done yet. I don’t know why my brain is like this, but I haven’t been able to break this tendency. So for example, while I’m writing, I’ll suddenly think about the fact that today’s the day when I need to change the bathroom towels, or mop the kitchen floor, or change the bedsheets. It’ll distract me for a few moments before I tell myself I’ll do it later and I need to focus on writing now. Then a few
