Book review - ADAM by Ted Dekker

Captain's Log, Stardate 02.22.2008 Adam by Ted Dekker He died once to stop the killer...now he's dying again to save his wife. FBI behavioral psychologist Daniel Clark has become famous for his well-articulated arguments that religion is one of society’s greatest antagonists. What Daniel doesn’t know is that his obsessive pursuit of a serial killer known only as “Eve” is about to end abruptly with an unexpected death--his own. Twenty minutes later Daniel is resuscitated, only to be haunted by the loss of memory of the events immediately preceding his death. Daniel becomes convinced that the only way to stop Eve is to recover those missing minutes during which he alone saw the killer’s face. And the only way to access them is to trigger his brain’s memory dump that occurs at the time of death by simulating his death again…and again. So begins a carefully researched psychological thriller which delves deep into the haunting realities of near-death experiences, demon possession, ...

Interview with Robin Caroll

Captain's Log, Stardate 02.21.2008 Today I have an interview with romantic suspense author Robin Caroll  about her latest novel, Bayou Corruption ! From the back cover: "Don't let them get away with it, Jacks—" Those were the sheriff's last words. Left for dead in the middle of the road, Jackson Devereaux's good buddy had slipped into a coma. Well, Jackson wouldn't let them get away with it, once the ace newspaper reporter uncovered who they were. He'd start with the lovely Alyssa LeBlanc, the only eyewitness to the crime. Problem was, she hated Jackson—why?—as much as she hated being back in the Louisiana bayou. Unfortunately, the truth lay deep in the bayou's belly. And whether they liked it or not, Alyssa had to lead the way. Check out my review here And now, here’s me and Robin! What's your favorite scene in Bayou Corruption ? Hmmmm...that's hard. I actually have two. One in which Alyssa finds Sheriff Theriot and at...

Geta (slipper) socks

Captain’s Log, Supplemental I’ve been wearing Crocs slippers around the house—the cushioning helps my plantar fascitis. The problem is that in the wintertime, I have to bunch up my socks in order to wear them with my slippers. Japanese people wear split-toe socks called tabi socks, worn with a geta slipper. I thought, why not make my own with wool yarn? I used Red Sprinkles Wool-Ease worsted yarn, and I adapted Pinpilan Wangsai’s Lickety Split socks pattern for the toes (I knitted mine top down rather than toe up). For the leg, I used the “Scallops and Lace” pattern by Sissy Gorgus from the Knitting Zone Sock Challenge . Update: I wrote out the knitting pattern for top-down stockinette tabi slipper socks ! Captain Caffeine calls them “alien socks” because the split toe looks so freaky. I blithely ignore him, because HIS feet are cold while mine are toasty warm.

Book review – HER UNLIKELY FAMILY

Captain's Log, Supplemental Her Unlikely Family by Missy Tippens From the back cover: Take One Conservative Bank President Add One Rebellious Teenager Try To Mix Take responsibility for his orphaned niece, yes. Raise her himself, no. A good boarding school was what the girl needed, not an uncle who was never home. But then Michael Throckmorton's niece ran away. And the big-hearted, beautiful diner waitress who'd taken her in wasn't letting her go so easily. Josie Miller had a few conditions for Michael. Oddly enough, he was willing to listen. Yet days later, why wasn't he hauling the teen back to school and himself back to the city? Could it be that an unlikely family was forming? Camy here: What a fun story! I liked the mix of two such different personalities as Josie and Michael. Josie is both kind and wild—just the kind of heroine I like to read about. Michael starts off very stuffy and I didn’t really like him at first, but I really enjoyed his transformation f...

So what are you reading?

Captain's Log, Supplemental Crystal Miller tagged me with this really cool meme! The Rules: 1. Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages). 2. Open the book to page 123. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the next three sentences. 5. Tag five people. The False Betrothal by Clarice Peters “But even you must own that the situation has its humorous side. You are perhaps the most feted lady I know. And there’s Winslow, who has had more caps set at him than even a royal duke, besides being much handsomer than any of the dukes.” That’s not a very good excerpt from this novel. I’m enjoying it because the author is quite witty in some of her dialogue and humorous in the story situations. Overall, an entertaining book, if a bit predictable—but then again, it was written 24 years ago, so I really have to cut the author some slack. Book review – BAYOU CORRUPTION

Captain's Log, Stardate 02.19.2008 Bayou Corruption by Robin Caroll From the back cover: "Don't let them get away with it, Jacks—" Those were the sheriff's last words. Camy here: I like this book even better than the first in the series, Bayou Justice ! I’m not sure why, but I like the heroine, Alyssa, better than CoCo from the first book. I don’t really relate to Alyssa’s job as a newspaper reporter, or her hatred of her home, or her personality, which is elegant a...
