TEN: Getting a little serious today.

I read about the TEN organization through XXXchurch.com. The Emancipation Network (TEN) fights human trafficking and offers support to its victims in India.

Part of TEN's work is a project called "Made by Survivors," which helps provide an income and transition for those rescued from slavery.

The catalog of “Made by Survivors” is stunning. I’ll be buying their stuff, especially their notepaper and journals (I’m a writer, what else would you expect?). Their clothing, bags, home décor, and jewelry are fabulous, too. (Is my chick lit shopaholic side showing???)

I don’t know why, but God has laid the issue of human trafficking on my heart. I’m supporting the groups who try to stop trafficking and protect the victims. My church supports two missionaries for Zoe International, Greg and Nancy Nakamura, who run a home in Thailand for children who were/are at risk of being kidnapped or sold.

What about you? Any issues God has laid on your heart?

Human Trafficking issue has been one of my "causes." I've written a novel about a trafficked woman. I support International Justice Mission and Shared Hope.

I guess my issue is men's purity. So many men are closet porn addicts because of the annonymity the web provides. I don't know any specific numbers, but I've heard organizations claim that as many as 50% of all Christian men struggle with porn addictions. That's scary.

And it's closely related to human trafficking. I'm not tight with the porn industry, but I suspect the volunteer porn star is a pretty rare exception. I would guess that nearly all non-American porn sites rely in part on human trafficking. And I'll bet some American porn sites do.

It makes me feel kind of sick even to describe the problem so specifically. But in a hypersexed virtual world, I have to know what to run from so I know when to run.

No Cold Bums toilet seat cover

Captain's Log, Stardate 08.22.2008 I actually wrote out my pattern! I was getting a lot of hits on my infamous toilet seat cover , and I wanted to make a new one with “improvements,” so I paid attention and wrote things down as I made the new one. This was originally based off the Potty Mouth toilet cover , but I altered it to fit over the seat instead of the lid. Yarn: any worsted weight yarn, about 120 yards (this is a really tight number, I used exactly 118 yards. My suggestion is to make sure you have about 130 yards.) I suggest using acrylic yarn because you’re going to be washing this often. Needle: I used US 8, but you can use whatever needle size is recommended by the yarn you’re using. Gauge: Not that important. Mine was 4 sts/1 inch in garter stitch. 6 buttons (I used some leftover shell buttons I had in my stash) tapestry needle Crochet hook (optional) Cover: Using a provisional cast on, cast on 12 stitches. Work in garter st until liner measures

Tabi socks, part deux

Captain's Log, Stardate 07.25.2008 (If you're on Ravelry, friend me! I'm camytang.) I made tabi socks again! (At the bottom of the pattern is the calculation for the toe split if you're not using the same weight yarn that I did for this pattern (fingering). I also give an example from when I used worsted weight yarn with this pattern.) I used Opal yarn, Petticoat colorway. It’s a finer yarn than my last pair of tabi socks, so I altered the pattern a bit. Okay, so here’s my first foray into giving a knitting pattern. Chopsticks and knitting

Hahahahaha! My husband, Captain Caffeine sent me this cartoon. The Asian and the knitter in me loves this one: My parents taught me to use chopsticks at an early age so they’re pretty comfortable for me. Did you know there are differences between Japanese and Chinese chopsticks? The Chinese ones tend to be blunter and more slippery whereas the Japanese ones are pointier and sometimes have a textured tip to make it easier to grab food. My mom will eat salad with a chopstick, which I have to admit is a bit easier than a fork, for me. Any of you knit? Any of you use chopsticks?
